Canelo Álvarez Talks Legacy Fights Ahead of Berlanga Bout
Canelo Álvarez vs. David Benavidez?
Canelo spoke to a selection of media personnel, including Dan Rafael, on Wednesday following the press conference for his fight against Berlanga. During his Q&A session, Canelo spoke about legacy fights and mentioned a potential bout against Benavidez:
“I have legendary fights, Cotto, Golovkin. They bring me something to the table. They bring me legacy to the table. I’m talking about that. I know you guys (media) always want to put if I beat (David) Benavidez, you (will) want to put other fighter there, but like I say, if the money is right in that special fight, I’m in.”
He continued: “He don’t bring me legacy. He don’t bring me anything. If the money is right I’m in.”
He was then asked what fights he believes bring him legacy outside of Berlanga, and he said: “I don’t know. Right now there is not much people left. I’ve fought everybody already.”

Retirement Plans for Álvarez
Canelo was then asked about his motivation and why he is still fighting at the highest level: “I enjoy it. I like my routine being in training routine. I enjoy all of this. Put more money in my account obviously too. I already did everything.”
When asked if he sees the end (retirement) coming, with no hesitation he said: “No. I feel in my best right now. This Canelo beats a Canelo at 25, 26, 27.”
He was then asked if he feels as fresh as many years ago: “Yes, I feel great,” he said unequivocally.
Explaining what he attributes feeling great to, he said: “My mental, my training camp. I take care of myself, my body. I have more experience.”
