Beterbiev-Browne Spoke on Meeting Next Month

Artur Beterbiev gets to go back to his second home next month as his latest unified title defense will have him take on #1 contender Marcus Browne.

Beterbiev and Brown lock up in Montreal at the Bell Centre on December 17 that will air on ESPN+ for Beterbiev’s WBC and IBF light heavyweight titles. They held their initial media call to the boxing media on Monday in English and French to kick off the promotion of Betrbiev’s latest title defense.

This will be Betrbiev’s 3rd fight at the Bell Centre going back to his first one in 2014 stopping Tavoris Cloud and will be his first since stopping Oleksandr Gvozdyk to unify the belts in 2019. A fun fact learned on the call that Bob Arum revealed his first fight he promoted in Canada was over forty years ago. That fight you may have heard of as “The Brawl in Montreal”.

“Home fight is always better than anywhere else. I really don’t care due to traveling in the amateurs. I like to have the fight in my city of Montreal,” Artur Beterbiev stated on the media call. “Even when it’s not my city, it’s my city.”

Browne was planted seeds by Errol Spence Jr. to relocate down to Dallas as they both have the same trainer in Derrick James. which was the one big change Browne has made in preparation for this contest with Beterbiev.

“I really don’t have much to say. It’s all about getting prepared and bringing the titles home. To be successful you have to make sacrifices.,” Browne’s trainer Derrick James stated on the call.
James also spoke that Browne relocated to his training base of Dallas from Long Island to prepare for this title bout.

“I haven’t changed much…except trainers”, Browne stated on the call when asked about the difference since the loss to Jean Pascal back in 2019. “I’m ready. The earth is my turfIt don’t matter where it is. Come December 17, we’re going to apply everything we’ve been working on. I can’t wait to get in there and fight,”

The opening salvo out to the media was a peaceful one but I expect all of this to switch closer we get to fight week for this one as both fighters look to stake their claim at the top of the 175-pound division.
