A Monday press conference in London finally made official an event being billed as “Knockout Chaos.” The March 8 card will see former two-time heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou (0-1 in boxing, 17-3 in MMA) in a 10-rounder. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Arena, will host the event. This will be yet another card that is part of Riyadh Season, a state-funded entertainment and sports festival.

Anthony Joshua: ‘This Fight Is My Everything’

The expectation for March 8 was that Deontay Wilder face Joshua. This was why Wilder and Joshua appeared in an event billed as “Day of Reckoning.” However, the American lost to Joseph Parker, resulting in a change of plans. Joshua said at the press conference that he had “no problem” with the prospect of facing Ngannou.

“Every fight leads to somewhere,” said the Brit. “So this fight is my everything, my soul, my spirit, my mind, my body. We’ll see where it leads me, but, right now I’m not thinking about any championship belts or anything. My main focus is Francis [Ngannou]…

Ngannou made his professional boxing debut against reigning WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in October 2023. Despite losing a split decision, the Cameroonian received plaudits for a performance that saw him knock down Fury. He now returns to the ring against another top boxing heavyweight.

So, I don’t take my last fight as a reference and think that I get this done, and think that I get everything. You know, I know exactly where I am at. I’m just a beginner. And I’m definitely gonna come out better and, yes, get better and better. So, that’s how I see things. I’m getting prepared for a tough, hard fight.
