The Boots and Bam Show: Jaron Ennis and Jesse Rodriguez Expected to Defend Titles on Nov. 9
Eddie Hearn recently voiced his frustrations over failed negotiations to make a welterweight unification fight between IBF welterweight titlist Jaron “Boots” Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) and WBO titlist Brian Norman Jr. The want for that unification fight stemmed from the IBF enforcing the mandatory on “Boots” that he must face Karen Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 KOs), who he comfortably beat in 2023 for the interim belt. Despite the underwhelming opponent, according to Dan Rafael via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack, Matchroom Boxing appears to be working on a deal with German outfit P2M-Box Promotion to bring the fight to Ennis’ hometown of Philadelphia on November 9 with an appearance from WBC junior bantamweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, defending his title against Pedro Guevara in the co-feature.

Bam Rodriguez was last seen when he demolished Juan Francisco Estrada by seventh-round knockout to reclaim the WBC super flyweight title he had previously vacated. Estrada quickly said he wanted the rematch, but it now appears the legendary Mexican is moving up to bantamweight for a world title in a third division.

Guevara has spoken on the opportunity to fight Rodriguez even though the bout is yet to be confirmed: “I learned of this opportunity this (past) weekend. I feel so excited for this chance. Jesse is a strong and a smart fighter and right now he is in the top 10 pound-for-pound. That is great motivation for us, because with a win over him we will be in the premium echelon. This is one of the most exacting and demanding bouts of my career.”
Matchroom Lose Ennis Purse Bid
We last saw Boots Ennis in July, when he made his Matchroom debut in his hometown of Philadelphia, comfortably defeating David Avanesyan. The referee, following advice from the ringside physician, stopped the fight before the sixth round, ruling that Avanesyan should not continue.

P2M-Box Promotion shocked many by winning the rights to Ennis vs. Chukhadzhian II with a bid of $2,000,991.88, surpassing Matchroom’s offer of $1,566,666.
While the prospect of an Ennis vs. Chukhadzhian rematch may not excite many, the potential inclusion of Rodriguez on the card certainly adds intrigue.
