Fury victorious in WWE wrestling debut Thursday night

The good news for Tyson Fury, his fans and a potential rematch with Deontay Wilder in February is that he did participate in the WWE wrestling pay-per-view Thursday night in Saudi Arabia and came out unscathed.

Fury was part of the wrestling organization’s “Crown Jewel” pay-per-view from Saudi Arabia and in a one-on-one wrestling match with WWE bad guy, Braun Strowman

As we wrote previously, Fury’s wrestling debut had been hyped for a month and he decided to not just be a guest referee or some other non wrestling angle, but actually put on wrestling attire, boots and get in the ring with the mammoth Strowman.

The WWE provided a couple of social media posts showing the former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in the ring with the wrestler

About the most serious contact that Fury took was outside of the ring, as Strowman went charging into him with a wrestling, “shoulder block” here:

There has been concern that Fury, who suffered a nasty cut in his September fight (in a boxing ring) with Swedish fighter Otto Wallin, would be risking reopening that cut or some other type of re-injury.

However, he seemed to get away without any physical risk, as the wrestling match lasted approximately 7 minutes. It eventually ended with Fury landing a trademark boxing right, as Strowman was on the ring apron and fell off onto the ground.

Strowman was unable to beat the referee’s 10-count to get back in the ring and Fury was declared winner by count out.

That’s when Stroman jumped in the ring and eventually, landed on Fury with a  “power slam” Fury to the wrestling canvas before departing:

Fury appeared to look no worse for wear though, as he jumped up and was yelling back at Strowman, as he quickly walked back up the ramp and left the arena.

Fury is still in line for a potential rematch with WBC heavyweight champion Wilder, provided at Wilder defeats Luis Ortiz in their upcoming rematch on November 23rd. The Fury-Wilder fight is tentatively set for February 22nd and it’s believed that it will be held in Las Vegas.

However, none of that has been officially announced until after Wilder’s latest defense.

Wilder and Fury fought a wild first fight in December of 2018 in Los Angeles, where Fury appeared to be winning until the dramatic 12-round, where Wilder knocked him down with a booming right followed by a left and he barely beat the count to hang on for the final bell.

The fight was eventually ruled a draw and has set the rematch into motion

It’s unclear if Fury will wrestle anymore, but it is believed that he has time left on his WWE promotional deal.
