It was a confident opening round from O’Regan. He quickly settled into his groove, moving well and putting his shots together in quick combinations. Howarth closed the distance more effectively in the second round, but O’Regan continued to look sharp, picking his punches impressively.

The variety from Cory O’Regan stood out in the third, moving swiftly and mixing his attacks well. Howarth continued to apply pressure, despite the more eye-catching work from O’Regan. Taking the fight at short notice, O’Regan deserves all the credit, and the judges’ scorecards reflected O’Regan’s dominance, reading 99-91 and 98-92 x2, crowning the 30-year-old the new British lightweight champion.
