Carl Froch makes bold claim about Itauma vs Hrgovic ahead of IBF title fight

On August 29, at the O2 Arena in London, live on DAZN PPV, Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgovic headlines a Queensberry Promotions fight card. Ahead of this clash for the vacant IBF heavyweight title, Carl Froch spoke to NewBettingSites.uk, where he was asked about Frank Warren’s recent assertions that Itauma becoming world champion would eclipse Anthony Joshua beating Charles Martin.

Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgovic set for August 29 clash

Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KOs) was an accomplished amateur who has mixed at a good level in the professional ranks, losing only once to Daniel Dubois. His best wins have come against Zhilei Zhang and David Adeleye.

Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) has dazzled so far, defeating Dillian Whyte and Mike Balogun. His movement, speed and power make him a nightmare for any opponent, as seen last time when he became the first man to stop Jermaine Franklin. 

Carl Froch makes bold claim ahead of Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgovic

When asked about Frank Warren’s comments that Itauma beating Hrgovic at 21 would be a greater achievement than AJ beating Martin, Carl Froch told NewBettingSites.uk:

“Yeah, definitely. One hundred per cent [beating Hrgovic is a better win that AJ beating Charles Martin]. Itauma beating Hrgović is a far better fight to win. It is a better scalp. Charles Martin was useless. He won a vacant title and never did anything. Hrgović is a bona fide, solid, Eastern European menace. He is a good fighter and he will give anyone a hard fight.

“But I think Itauma is going to be too quick, too fresh. I think he boxes rings around him for a few rounds and possibly gets the stoppage late on. But it will be tough for him, provided he can take one on the chin, because I think Hrgović will hit him on the chin at some point. It is a great test for him. If he wins in style, it is a really good win.”

If Itauma can win the world title in his 15th fight at just 21, he will become the second-youngest heavyweight world champion in history. AJ was dominant in his victory over Martin, but if Itauma can get the job done, it would exceed what Joshua did in our view. The 21-year-old Queensberry fighter will achieve it, five years younger than AJ was. 

Hrgovic will be determined to rip up all plans for Itauma to become heavyweight champion at such a young age. Does he ruin the party? Or does the 21-year-old write his name into the history books?
