Canelo on GGG-‘He hasn’t done anything’

One person for sure who wasn’t impressed with what Gennady Golovkin did this past weekend in the ring was fellow rival Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo when speaking with Mexican station TV Azteca was confident that he would beat Golovkin a third time when if they ever met again.

“I am the fighter to beat, the one everyone wants to face”, Canelo said to TV Azteca. “Since he fought with me, Golovkin, what has he done? He hasn’t done anything.”

Canelo stated in the interview that at this current juncture, Golovkin doesn’t pose much of a challenge and told his promotion company, Golden Boy Promotions as much.

“I already talked to [Golden Boy Promotions],” Canelo said. If they want me to fight with him, the only thing he represents is some business. If he does not represent a challenge, I will not do it. If they want the fight, break down the numbers to me and then maybe. I want another kind of challenge.”

We’ll see f that business comes to fruition down the line as Canelo prepare for his matchup against Sergey Kovalev on November 2. One party that would be highly interested in this business is the streaming service DAZN who signed both Canelo and Golovkin to long term-exclusive fight deals with the assumption that both would face off for the third time.

The constant chatter about this third fight despite Golovkin going on 38 next year and looked every bit of against Sergiy Derevyanchenko last Saturday night is because of the last fight between the two provided 1.1 million pay-per-view buys. At $84.95 a television set, it generated around 94 million dollars. DAZN offering there streaming service at a price point of $19.95 a month or $99.95 for a year is safe to assume was looking for those eyes when they signed both fighters.

Until that happens, Canelo states if they do meet again, he will stop Golovkin.

“I’m come back from facing pure world champion [in Jacobs], and now I’m climbing two divisions to fight with someone who is not coming off a loss. [Golovkin] no longer represents any challenge. I beat him, I gave him 24 rounds and he could not [beat me]. What will happen in the third? I’m going to win again, I’ll even knock him out,” Canelo stated.

Everyone who saw this past weekend’s Golovkin fight would be hard-pressed to think otherwise but until they go thru with the third fight, we’ll have to depend on words from both sides of this.
