Dalton Smith recent form

Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) endured a slow ending to 2023, with inactivity killing his momentum. Despite this, the Sheffield fighter returned in 2024, blowing away Jose Zepeda. Since that impressive win, he has defeated Walid Ouizza and Mathieu Germain before producing a career-best performance to stop Subriel Matias to win the WBC crown.

Alberto Puello recent form

Puello (25-1, 11 KOs) suffered his only pro defeat in a close majority decision against Subriel Matias, which saw him lose the WBC title he won against Sandor Martin. Puello has returned since the Matias loss, stopping Miguel Angel Bolano.

The Big Fight Weekend verdict: Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello

Smith times his punches brilliantly and rarely wastes anything. His jab enables him to control the distance in his fights and set up combinations and power punches. He has proven he carries power at the highest level, and has the confidence to stand and trade with a heavy-handed fighter such as Matias.

Puello is a tricky customer with a 71-inch reach and fighting out of the southpaw stance, meaning he presents a tricky puzzle for the champion to solve.

He moves his feet well and creates space effectively to throw punches from unusual angles. Puello is also an accurate puncher who will try to punch in between Smith’s punches. It’s vital Smith sets a fast tempo early on and doesn’t allow Puello to settle. If the Dominican fighter is able to settle, this could be a tough night for the Brit. Dalton Smith is the real deal, and we are backing him to show his class and beat Puello on the scorecards.
