‘He’s ready for them all’: Andy Lee maps out super middleweight domination for Hamzah Sheeraz
On May 23, at the Pyramids of Giza, Hamzah Sheeraz vs Alem Begic will take place for the vacant WBO super middleweight title. Their world title fight will be on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven. The entire card will stream live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Ahead of this world title fight, Sheeraz’s trainer has spoken to The Ring, detailing their plans for domination at 168 pounds.
Hamzah Sheeraz and Alem Begic set for world title showdown
Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) will fight for the first time in 2026, having last fought Edgar Berlanga, stopping the American in the fifth round. That win was his first foray at 168 pounds. That performance has earned him the vacant title shot.
Begic (29-0-1, 23 KOs) has won seven fights in a row, since drawing against Tiran Metz. In his last two fights, he beat David Kerkmann and Mahdi Safdari.
Andy Lee tips Hamzah Sheeraz for 168 superiority
Ahead of May 23, Hamzah Sheeraz’s trainer, Andy Lee, spoke to The Ring about Sheeraz being ready for Begic, but also laid out the team’s plan for 168-pound domination:
“He’s ready for them all,” Lee told The Ring. “All goes to plan, he’ll be the unified, [then] undisputed champion in the next year or two.
“He has to win the [Begic] fight. I’m not looking past anything or taking anything for granted.
“It’s a big opportunity for Alem Begic to make his name. We have to make sure that Hamzah is on top of everything, at the peak of his powers.
“He’s improving every day, I’m excited for him and I’m looking forward to the experience of being in Egypt. I’ve always been fascinated by the Pyramids. It’s going to be a fantastic setting, but first and foremost it’s the boxing.”
“I think Hamzah has the experience,” said Lee. “He’s such a determined, mentally strong person. I don’t care if it was Canelo or Begic, I think he’s preparing the exact same way. We’ll have the same mindset.”
