Filip Hrgovic issues honest assessment ahead of Dave Allen clash
On May 16, at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, Filip Hrgovic will take on the popular British heavyweight Dave Allen. The entire card will be promoted by Queensberry Promotions, live on DAZN.
Ahead of this heavyweight dust-up, Hrgovic spoke to Andi Purewal of Seconds Out, giving an honest assessment of this match-up.
Filip Hrgovic and Daven Allen set to clash on May 16
Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) has undoubtedly mixed at a higher level, losing only once, to Daniel Dubois. Recent wins over Joe Joyce and David Adeleye have provided the big Croatian with the opportunity to face Allen.
The Doncaster De La Hoya (25-8-2, 20 KOs) is loved by many in the boxing world, and his best wins came against Lucas Browne and Johnny Fisher, so a win over Hrgovic would clearly trump those previous wins.
It has been widely reported that if Filip Hrgovic beats Dave Allen, he will fight again in August against fellow Brit Moses Itauma.
Filip Hrgovic gives honest assessment of Dave Allen fight
Speaking to Andi Purewal at Seconds Out, Hrgovic was asked what he gains from beating Dave Allen:
“I’m getting paid, and I’m getting another fight, you know. If I lose, I’m f***ed up. I can’t go anywhere from that loss. I must win to continue my journey,” said Hrgovic.
The Croatian was then asked what the difference would be for Dave Allen facing him, compared to anyone else The White Rhino might face:
“We’ll see on Saturday, but I think it will be similar to when he fought these good guys like (Tony) Yoka, (Luis) Ortiz, Dillian Whyte.
“He keeps coming forward, and he’s getting punished, you know. He’s losing the rounds, but he’s trying; he’s dangerous all the time because he’s trying, he’s brave, he’s tough, he’s durable, but I must be careful of that overhand right and that right uppercut through the guard. But, I think I have better abilities to win the rounds,” added the Croatian.
