Oscar De La Hoya issues stark warning ahead of Gilberto Ramirez vs David Benavidez

On May 2, at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Gilberto Ramirez vs David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) headlines a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video and DAZN PPV for Ramirez’s WBO/WBA cruiserweight title.

As we edge closer to this huge cruiserweight unification bout, Ramirez’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, spoke to Fight Hub TV, casting doubt on Benavidez’s chin.

Gilberto Ramirez vs David Benavidez set for unified showdown

Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) is the unified champion and will be full of confidence coming into this fight despite this being his first fight outing since undergoing shoulder surgery. The Mexican has only one loss in his career, against Dmitry Bivol. He has looked exemplary since that sole defeat.

Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) has dazzled moving through the weights and is now making his biggest move, climbing 25lbs in the weights, aiming to become the unified king.

Gilberto Ramirez vs David Benavidez: Oscar De La Hoya issues stark warning

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya cast doubt on the chin of Benavidez:

“Styles make fights, obviously, and I’ve watched many Benavidez fights. I’ve watched many Zurdo; obviously, I promote him. But Benavidez throws a lot of punches. Doesn’t throw everything with power, and he doesn’t have a good chin.

“I mean, Zurdo, on the other hand, takes his time. He’s very calculated, but every punch he throws is hard. It’s got bad intentions. All it takes is one exchange when Benavidez is throwing punches in bunches. All it takes is one (mimics heavy punch).

“That’s all it takes.”
