Keyshawn Davis vs Nahir Albright set for May 16 showdown
Keyshawn Davis vs Nahir Albright will headline Top Rank’s inaugural event on DAZN in a rematch steeped in drama.
Davis (14-0, 10 KOs) enjoyed an impressive amateur career before turning professional. Since then, there have been undeniable highs, but it has been anything but straightforward.
Davis and Albright (17-2-1, 7 KOs) first met in 2023, with Davis winning by majority decision, with scores of 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95. This was changed to a no-contest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, resulting in Davis being suspended for 90 days because he tested positive for marijuana in a post-fight drug test. Marijuana is still a banned substance in most jurisdictions.
Davis was brilliant when he won the WBO lightweight title, but it was stripped from him before his first defence against Edwin De Los Santos last June, as the fight was cancelled due to Davis being 4.3 pounds overweight. On that undercard, Albright defeated Kelvin Davis by majority decision, leading to his brothers Keyshawn and Keon Davis attacking Albright in his dressing room.
That drama set the scene perfectly and brings us full circle to the upcoming rematch on May 16.
Keyshawn Davis sends KO warning to Nahir Albright
Since returning after being stripped of his lightweight title, Davis has moved to super lightweight, where he impressed on his debut, stopping Jamaine Ortiz on the Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez undercard.
In a video posted on his Instagram account of himself in training, Davis was full of confidence regarding his upcoming fight on May 16:
“May 16th, I am not playing with him; he’s getting knocked out, for DB3, man.
“For the city, for the town, Norfolk Scope, you better be there because bro about to get knocked out, for sure.”
