Carl Froch makes bold Moses Itauma claims — including Fury And Joshua
On March 28, at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, Moses Itauma vs Jermaine Franklin headlined a Queensberry Promotions fight card, live on DAZN.
Franklin was selected as a man who could push Itauma further than any other fighter he’s faced so far. The American lasted longer than most, but Itauma ultimately got the job done in style, winning by fifth-round TKO. Following this stunning performance, Carl Froch spoke via his Froch on Fighting YouTube channel, where he praised Itauma and discussed him alongside the biggest names in the heavyweight division.
Moses Itauma stops Jermaine Franklin
Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) started fast, and quickly got into a groove, picking his punches with blistering hand speed, leaving Franklin befuddled. The 21-year-old never rushed his work and scored a knockdown in the third, with a well-placed sharp right hook.
The Chatham fighter came out fast in the fifth round, landing a devastating left uppercut that left Franklin falling to the canvas. Itauma brutally landed a right hand to finish the job, leaving referee Steve Gray no option but to wave the fight off. What a performance from Itauma!
Carl Froch praises Moses Itauma
Praising Itauma and looking at how he sits alongside other heavyweights, Froch said:
“So, Usyk aside, let’s just put him in a box because he is the best of the best in my opinion. He’s the greatest, but he’s at the end of his career. You’ve got Fabio Wardley, you’ve got Daniel Dubois. I think Moses beats both of them. Obviously, Daniel Dubois got that punch that could catch him, actually, as has Fabio Wardley, but I just don’t think they’re good enough.
“When you look at Itauma, and his speed, and his footwork, his combination punching, and the power, it’s just very, very good. So I wouldn’t put him in with them two. I think he beats them both, Wardley and Dubois. You got (Joseph) Parker as well, within that sort of level. He beats Joseph Parker for me, quite easily. Don’t want to give Parker any stick. He’s had a great career. He’s a great fighter.
“And then you’ve got Anthony Joshua. If you’re looking at the level of opponents and where he could go, I just think he obliterates all of them. I think he beats all of them fighters. I think he beats AJ. AJ’s not fought for ages. He’s been done himself a couple of times. The only one left there who you could mention is Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury is well past his best. Tyson Fury’s coming back against (Arslanbek) Makhmudov, so we’ll have a look at what he looks like on Netflix.
“But, Moses Itauma-Tyson Fury, who you got, I’ve got to say, Moses Itauma. Young, fresh, fast, solid, can punch. Let’s have a look at what Tyson Fury’s got. But this is how much I’m rating Itauma at the moment. He’s 21 years old. Let’s just enjoy the journey, because I don’t think he’s going anywhere.”
