Edgar Berlanga vs. Steven Butler fight recap

Edgar Berlanga (24-2, 19 KOs) returned to the win column with a seventh round technical knockout against Steven Butler (38-6-1, 32 KOs).

The official time of stoppage was 1:14. It is Berlanga’s first fight and win since losing to Hamzah Sheeraz in July last year. This was also his first bout since signing with Zuffa Boxing.

Both men showed patience in the first two rounds, standing at range of each other and occasionally throwing straight punches. At the end of the second, however, a straight right hand to the head caused Berlanga to go down. It did not appear to bother him much as he got up and carried on fighting.


Butler was rocked in the third by a straight right hand. He was on wobbly legs for the entirety of the round, but did not get dropped. Butler also appeared to have been stunned twice in the fifth, but was able to stay standing. Despite being dropped early in the fight, Berlanga was now comfortably landing his power shots and hurting his opponent.

A series of punches to the head dropped Butler towards the end of round six. Although he got up, the fight would not go on for much longer. In round seven, a combination that included four left hooks and a straight right to the head by Berlanga ultimately caused referee Eric Dali to step in and end proceedings with Butler still standing.

Undercard results

Richardson Hitchins (21-0, 8 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Ricardo Salas (24-3-2, 18 KOs). Scores for their 10-round welterweight clash were 100-90 across the board.

Jalil Hackett (13-1, 9 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Sergiy Derevyanchenko (16-7, 11 KOs). Scores for their 10-round middleweight bout were 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94.

Vladyslav Sirenko (23-1, 19 KOs) won via tenth round knockout against Otto Wallin (28-4, 16 KOs, 1 NC). The official time of stoppage for this 10-round heavyweight bout was 2:59. A right hook followed by a left hook upstairs knocked Wallin out cold, putting an immediate end to proceedings.


Emiliano Moreno (13-1, 7 KOs, 2 NCs) won a unanimous decision against Arnold González (18-2, 9 KOs). Scores for their eight-round welterweight contest were 79-73 and 78-74 (x2).

Kashaun Davis (12-0, 11 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Mihai Nistor (8-1, 8 KOs). Scores for their eight-round heavyweight fight were 80-71 (x2) and 79-72. Nistor lost a point in the fifth for excessive holding.

Troy Nash (8-0-1, 1 KO) won a majority decision against Ethan Perez (8-1-1, 3 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight clash. Although one judge had the action 76-76, the other two saw it 79-73.

Undercard on YouTube results

On a portion of the undercard that was broadcast on YouTube, Hector Sosa (19-4, 9 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Dominique Francis (16-1, 10 KOs). Scores for their eight-round super featherweight bout were 79-72, 78-73, and 77-74. Francis was knocked down in the third from a left hook to the head.
