Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis: Gervonta Davis ring walk vs Frank Martin

Shakur Stevenson is one of the most talked-about fighters in boxing. He gets criticised for his style by some, but praised highly by others. In recent times, he has changed many views with dominating performances against William Zepeda and, more recently, Teofimo Lopez. These victories have placed him among the best active pound-for-pound boxers. Shakur was recently back in the news after signing with Zuffa Boxing. Following Zuffa Boxing 09, Dana White spoke to the press and teased talks with Gervonta Davis and a potential Stevenson-Davis showdown.

Shakur Stevenson joins Zuffa Boxing

In the press release announcing the deal, Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) said: “Line them up, one by one, and I’ll beat all the top guys once I get them in front of me.”

“With Zuffa Boxing, I’m going to go after the biggest fights in the sport, and I will become the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” added Shakur.

“Shakur is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world,” said UFC President Dana White in the same press release. “He’s 29 years old, undefeated and already a four-division world champion. This is a massive signing for Zuffa Boxing, and I’m looking forward to promoting this next fight.”

Dana White teases Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis

After the conclusion of the Zuffa 09 fight card, Dana White was asked if we can expect to see Shakur Stevenson in action before the end of the year: “Yeah,” responded White.

White was then asked about potential opponents for Shakur and said: “If I did, I would have announced it already. I love Tank Davis, so I’m actually a fan, and we’ve talked to them. I don’t think he has any plans to fight anytime…I don’t want to speak for him, or whatever, but I have talked to him, and I’m a fan, so…”

When asked if Stevenson vs Tank is the Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler of this era: “I mean, you hope so. You can make these fights and only hope. We knew tonight’s main event (Edgar Berlanga vs Steven Butler) was gonna be good, but you don’t know until it plays out. I’m looking to make all the big fights that are out there,” said White.

Signing Gervonta Davis would be a huge statement of intent from Zuffa Boxing, and a Davis-Stevenson clash would garner huge interest from boxing aficionados and beyond.

The speed and raw power of Davis against the slick defensive mastery of Stevenson is a work of art many sweet science lovers would want to see.

Is Dana White the man to finally make Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis?
