Roy Jones Jr delivers blunt reality check for Keyshawn Davis

On January 31 at Madison Square Garden, Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) returns to action at super lightweight against Jamaine Ortiz (20-2-1, 10 KOs) on the highly anticipated “Ring VI” fight card, headlined by Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson. The entire card will be shown live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Davis has had his share of troubles, but his talent is clear for all to see. It remains to be seen if he can stay focused enough to challenge for world titles again. Roy Jones Jr has spoken with Andre Ward about Davis on the All The Smoke Fight podcast, revealing that the Norfolk native has some serious questions to answer.

Roy Jones Jr reveals hard questions Keyshawn Davis has to answer

Davis was set to defend his WBO lightweight title on June 7, 2025, the first defence of the belt he won so impressively against Denys Berinchyk. The Norfolk native was scheduled to face Edwin De Los Santos in his hometown before he missed weight by a significant 4.3 pounds, leading to him being stripped of his world title.

It will be great to see him back in action, but he has questions to answer. Reflecting on Keyshawn Davis’ troubles and the doubts aimed his way, Jones Jr said:

“In this game, it’s called professional boxing. In professional boxing, you cannot allow yourself to come into a homecoming and not make weight. And let another guy come and really take over your showcase in your own hometown.

“So yes, it’s going to be a lot of questions about how much you love this sport. A lot of questions about how much do you love yourself. We know you’ve got the talent, we’ve seen it. We know you’ve got the skills, we’ve seen it. But are you serious about the sport as you should be? Having as much talent as you have.

“Do you love boxing? Are you taking professional boxing the way a professional athlete should? Those are the questions.”
