Agit Kabayel vs. Damian Knyba fight recap

Agit Kabayel (27-0, 19 KOs) needed just three rounds in his homecoming fight to stop Damian Knyba (17-1, 11 KOs).

The German heavyweight fought in his home country for the first time in nearly three years. His fight against Knyba came after three consecutive bouts in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While some may argue that the stoppage was premature, Kabayel was getting the better of his opponent and not far from ending the fight without referee intervention. He remains in line to challenge for the WBC heavyweight world title, currently held by Oleksandr Usyk, with the victory.

Knyba began the fight by moving off of the back foot. He effectively used his long reach to consistently land jabs and set up power shots with his right. Kabayel initially had some difficulty closing the distance. Despite this, he persisted in pressing forward.

Kabayel started to put a beating on his opponent in round three. Knyba remained on the back foot in an attempt to avoid the onslaught but was unable to do. Following a barrage of punches from Kabayel, the referee stepped in to end proceedings with Knyba still standing.

Undercard on DAZN

Petar Milas (20-1, 16 KOs) won via tenth round technical knockout against Granit Shala (18-2, 7 KOs). Milas was dropped by a right hook to the head in the tenth. Although he got up, he was hit again with several right hooks and the 10-round heavyweight bout should have been stopped at that point. Milas even requested the referee to end proceedings. Since the referee did not do that, Milas then landed a one-two upstairs. The referee issued a count but terminated it before reaching 10.

Nelson Birchall (10-0, 7 KOs) won via corner retirement against Wilbert Panttin (7-7, 4 KOs) in a six-round lightweight encounter. Panttin’s corner put an end to proceedings before the start of round six after seeing their fighter take heavy punishment.

Jadier Herrera (18-0, 16 KOs) won via eighth round technical knockout against Ricardo Núñez (26-8, 22 KOs). Herrera had been dropped in the first from a looping right hand. He worked his way back into this 12-round lightweight contest to eventually stop Núñez in the eighth following a barrage of punches upstairs.

Roman Fury (6-0, 3 KOs) won via fourth round technical knockout against Kevin Greenwood (6-12, 1 KO). The stoppage for this six-round heavyweight clash occured with Greenwood still standing after being thoroughly outboxed.

Opening the broadcast on DAZN, Nelvie Tiafack (3-0, 3 KOs) won via second round technical knockout against Piotr Cwik (9-6, 8 KOs) in a six-round heavyweight bout. Cwik was dropped in the second from a barrage of punches. Although he got up, Tiafack then unleashed another barrage that caused the referee to step in and end proceedings.

Undercard on YouTube

On a portion of the undercard that was broadcast on YouTube, Kevin Saszik (10-0, 4 KOs) won via first round knockout against Brian Zwart (6-7, 4 KOs). The stoppage for this eight-round heavyweight contest occured following an overhand right. Zwart was unable to beat the referee’s count.

Seun Salami (9-0-1, 7 KOs) and Daniel Dietz (15-1-1, 14 KOs) fought to a draw in a six-round heavyweight fight. The referee had it 57-57 on his scorecard.

Gleb Bakshi (7-0, 5 KOs) won via first round technical knockout against Juan Duran (21-2, 19 KOs). The stoppage for this 10-round middleweight clash occured following a left hook. Although Duran got to his feet, he was on unsteady legs and the referee promptly put an end to proceedings.

Opening the broadcast on YouTube, Oronzo Birardi (10-1, 7 KOs) won via fourth round knockout against Miroslav Savic (9-11-1, 7 KOs). The stoppage for this eight-round cruiserweight bout occured following a barrage of hooks. However, Birardi threw a number of punches after Savic had taken a knee.
