Amanda Serrano vs. Reina Tellez fight recap

Amanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 KOs) scored a dominant unanimous decision win over Reina Tellez (13-1-1, 5 KOs) in her boxing return to Puerto Rico.

Scores were 98-92 and 97-93 (x2). Serrano remains the WBA and WBO featherweight world champion with the victory. This was her third defence of the WBA title since defeating Erika Cruz in 2023 for it. Serrano also defended her WBO strap for the seventh time since defeating Heather Hardy for it in 2019. Tellez was not eligible to win either title on account of missing weight.

Note: Round length was three minutes instead of the customary two for women’s boxing.

Serrano immediately started pressing forward and throwing a high volume of punches the moment the opening bell rang. She had little trouble landing straight shots. Tellez was mainly on the back foot and struggled to deal with the volume coming at her.

Tellez was cut under the right eye in round four. Although she was mostly getting outboxed, the challenger found moments of success as she settled in. Swelling was evident by the right eye of Serrano once the fight entered the middle rounds. The unified champion’s poor head movement made it easier for Tellez to tag her. Despite this, Serrano was still outworking her opponent and winning most of the rounds.

Serrano threw the kitchen sink in the final round in an attempt to get the stoppage. She threw several punches to the body that clearly hurt her opponent. Tellez did all she could to avoid those shots by being on the retreat. Despite Serrano’s best efforts, she was unable to get the knockout, but she most certainly earned the victory on the scorecards.

Stephanie Han vs. Holly Holm fight recap

Stephanie Han (12-0, 3 KOs) may have sustained a cut to her forehand in her bout against Holly Holm (34-3-3, 9 KOs), but ultimately triumphed via technical unanimous decision.

Note: Round length was three minutes instead of the customary two for women’s boxing.

The fight was officially stopped at 1:44 of round seven. Scores were 69-64, 69-65, and 68-65 at the time of stoppage. Han remains the WBA lightweight world champion with the victory. This was her second defence of the title since winning it last year against Hannah Terlep.

Both women started the fight at range of each other, throwing their punches from that distance. They picked up the pace in the second. By the third round, Han was landing the cleaner and harder shots, briefly rocking her opponent with a straight right in that round.

Holm continued to get outboxed as the bout entered the middle rounds. Despite her efforts to rattle the reigning champion, she was unable to do so. Han remained composed and continued to tag Holm to the head and body.

An accidental clash of heads in round seven opened a cut on the forehead of Han. Referee Luis Pabon immediately intervened and had a ringside physician examine it. The bout was immediately terminated following the examination and went to the scorecards.
