Joseph Parker vs. Fabio Wardley fight recap
Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) put on another stunning performance in his eleventh round technical knockout win over Joseph Parker (36-4, 24 KOs).
The official time of stoppage was 1:54. Wardley solidified his case to become the next opponent for Oleksandr Usyk with the victory. The Ukrainian is currently the undisputed heavyweight world champion.
Both men started off by standing at range of each other, occasionally throwing their power shots from that distance. Parker rocked Wardley at the end of round one with shots upstairs, but the bell prevented him from following up. The second initially saw the New Zealander having success before suddenly getting rocked himself. Parker’s mouthguard got dislodged during this sequence, given him some respite before round two ended.
The pair continued exchanging hard punches from a distance as the fight entered the middle rounds. Parker eventually settled down and was outboxing his opponent. However, Wardley remained dangerous with his ability to land fast right hands.
Parker was putting a beating on Wardley for most of the tenth. Somehow, the Brit remained on his feet for the entire round. Not only that, Wardley turned things around with under 30 seconds to go. Parker was rocked once again but was able to make it to the end of the round.
Wardley cut his opponent early in the eleventh. Parker was clearly bothered by the cut near his left eye. Wardley eventually took advantage of this and landed a barrage of punches. He simply did not stop throwing hard power shots, landing several hooks and uppercuts in the process. Eventually, referee Howard Foster stepped in to end proceedings with Parker still standing. The New Zealander seemed annoyed by Foster’s decision to do so, appearing to want to fight on.
