Gervonta Davis vs Jake Paul – Ellie Scotney withdraws from November 14 undercard

With the rise of women’s boxing and the trailblazing success of Jane Crouch MBE when she became the first licensed female boxer in the United Kingdom way back in 1998, the sport has seen a growing, dramatic rise, with perceptions changing, and boxing skills being honed.

Much like cricket, football, and rugby, the women’s side of boxing is now big business, and it continues to grow year on year, with more and more fans turning their attentions to the ring action on this side of the growing undercards.

So set against that backdrop, news this week that Britain’s Ellie Scotney has been forced to pull out of her hugely anticipated undisputed super bantamweight title fight against fellow talented Mayelli Flores following injury, has come as a disappointment to all.

Ellie Scotney withdraws from undisputed title fight

The undefeated 27-year-old from Lewisham, London, was set to face off against her 33-year-old Mexican opponent and the current World Boxing Association champion as the undercard draw in the equally anticipated exhibition clash between Jake Paul and Gevonta Davis on November 14 in Miami.

It was set to be an intriguing affair as the unified World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion could have been in line for live roulette real money bonuses as she rolled the dice and took her shot to become the youngest British boxer to be crowned the undisputed world champion in the modern era of the sport by adding the WBA belt to her waist.

Sadly, as it is, fans will now have to wait even longer for that to potentially happen as she completes her recovery and rehabilitation phase, although hopefully it will not be that much of a wait, as it has already been stated that a new date for the fight will be officially confirmed shortly.

As the history buffs and stat enthusiasts will know, fellow Brit Josh Taylor was 31 years old, whilst Savannah Marshall and Chantelle Cameron were both 32 years old when they each achieved, and claimed, all four belts.

MVP announce replacement fight for Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores

Bout organiser Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder and CEO of Most Valuable Productions, wished her a ‘speedy recovery’ and stated that all at MVP looked forward to ‘fully supporting her return’ to the ring as soon as possible, so that she could get back on track in her ‘mission towards undisputed’ status.

The fight itself will not be a dead rubber, but the Catford native comes into the clash as firm favourite with eleven professional wins from eleven professional fights, and she did become the IBF world champion in only her seventh fight when she out pointed Cherneka Johnson back in June 2023 – and maybe somewhat fittingly, the 30-year-old New Zealand Maori now takes her place in a clash against Amanda Galle, and she will be out to defend her own undisputed bantamweight world championship title.

Whilst boxing fans will be waiting for the Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores bout to be rescheduled, given what it would mean for the women’s and British boxing game, Johnson and Galle should make some great entertainment for those who are either in attendance at the arena or watching on via their choice of broadcasting options.
