Jack Catterall reveals intriguing new chapter following split from longtime coaches
Former super lightweight world title challenger Jack Catterall recently revealed he has split from longtime coaches Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis.
Speculation followed over who would train him next, and according to The Ring Magazine, the Chorley native will be guided by Bozy Ennis. The Ring also reports that a potential first fight for this new partnership is already in the works.
Jack Catterall to embark on new journey under Bozy Ennis
Catterall (31-2, 13 KOs) enjoyed a successful stint stateside earlier this year and will fly to Philadelphia to begin camp alongside Jaron “Boots” Ennis for a potential fight against Ekow Essuman, rumoured for the November 15 Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 undercard.
The Chorley fighter was last seen in action defeating Harlem Eubank by a seventh-round technical decision, with Catterall deemed unable to continue after an accidental clash of heads. “El Gato” was declared the winner with scorecards in his favour reading 69-66 x2 and 69-65.
It remains to be seen what is next for Catterall, but a move to Bozy Ennis shows the hunger to win a world title is still there. When speaking to The Ring back in May, Catterall, now fighting at 147lbs reflected on training stateside and said:
“It was good to break the rhythm of driving to the gym in Manchester every day, go out there and spar in different gyms, learn new things, keep growing and learning.
“You never stop learning so to go out there on my own, no coaches so to speak, you put yourself under a bit of pressure on the back foot going to someone else’s gym. It’s their gym, you’re going in there for sparring, but it’s nice to feel uncomfortable. That’s how you grow, putting yourself in those positions and it worked for me, I met some great people, learned a lot and I’ve come home feeling revitalised, re-energised and ready to kick on.”
“You’ve got different eyes watching you, obviously want to show out and look good, I was fortunate to spar a lot of top talent out there. It’s good that you’ve got different people watching giving advice and tips – like a college degree – going away, putting yourself on the back foot and keep learning,” added Catterall.
Bozy Ennis stable and the potential improvement for Jack Catterall
Bozy Ennis continues to elevate his boxers, working well alongside his son, “Boots,” Stephen Fulton, Oshae Jones, and the talented Cuban Andy Cruz. Ennis encourages his fighters to blend their skills with power punching. A great example of this is how well Cruz has adapted to the professional ranks.
Catterall, now joining the Ennis stable, is a difficult puzzle for any opponent to solve, and if Bozy can help him generate more power, this could be a memorable resurgence for the tricky southpaw.
