Groves Reveals His Top Three
George Groves was involved in many memorable fights throughout his career, which saw him win his world title, defeating Fedor Chudinov by sixth-round TKO to win the vacant WBA super middleweight title. Reflecting on today’s elite, he offered the following “Inoue, he’s got to be somewhere. Crawford’s got to be somewhere. Canelo’s still there on his day. He’s still up there. I would like to put Usyk at number one. The top three would be Inoue, Crawford and Usyk for me. For Crawford just to be so dominant, in the Welterweight division. If he beats Canelo, then you put him on one.”
The Future: Boxing Pound for Pound Rankings
Each fighter in Groves’ top three has the opportunity to enhance their legacy in the coming months.
Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez are set to face each other on September 13 in Las Vegas, a fight with major implications for pound-for-pound supremacy. As for Oleksandr Usyk, his next move remains unclear following his win over Daniel Dubois. Potential opponents for the Ukrainian include Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker.
Naoya Inoue will return to action on September 14 against Murodjon Akhmadaliev. A win here could set up a blockbuster showdown in Riyadh later in the year. Turki Alalshikh recently confirmed plans for Inoue to headline a December 27 event:
“In December, we have The Monster,“ Alalshikh said. “The real monster. On December 27, we have Inoue. We are close to finishing Inoue against Picasso as the main event. The card will be built as the biggest fights between Japan and Mexico.”
