Oscar De La Hoya Questions Footwork of Canelo
September 13 will see two elite boxers come together and fight for undisputed super middleweight glory. It promises to be a memorable build-up and an intriguing fight. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will be aiming to become the first male fighter and only second fighter in history to become undisputed in three weight classes in the four-belt era.
Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) will be taking part in the second fight of his historic four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. A win for Alvarez will see him move on to the remaining two fights of this deal in 2026.
When talking about Canelo-Crawford, De La Hoya spoke about the ages if both: “The facts are that they’re over 35 years old, both, and I remember I fought (Julio Cesar) Chavez when he was 32, and he was 99-1, and people thought he was over the hill.”
The Golden Boy Promotions founder was then asked if his prediction had changed since Canelo’s underwhelming win over William Scull: “Yeah, it’s hard to say because Canelo, you know obviously, he walks on quicksand. We saw it against Scull once again.”

Looking ahead to September 13, De La Hoya spoke about the abilities of Crawford: “Crawford is very…you know, he’s not one dimensional. He can move, he can box, he can…you know, I don’t know how hard he hits to keep Canelo away from him, but, you know, I think it’s going to be very interesting,” said De La Hoya.
“Yeah, I’m looking forward to the fight,” added De La Hoya.
