Anthony Cacace Teases Lightweight Move and Big-Name Opponents

Anthony Cacace produced a career-best performance on May 10 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, defeating Leigh Wood by ninth-round TKO to successfully defend his IBO super featherweight title. Following the impressive win, Cacace and Queensberry Promotions founder Frank Warren discussed what could be next for the Belfast man. “Anto” has since appeared on the ArielxAde DAZN Boxing Show, where he teased a move up in weight in pursuit of the biggest fights.

Anthony Cacace Next Fight: Dominates Leigh Wood, Eyes Bigger Bouts

‘Anto’ Teases Move to Lightweight

Cacace’s career exploded when he stopped Joe Cordina on May 18, 2024, to win the IBF super featherweight title. It was an impressive display from “Antowho proved too accurate and powerful for the Welshman.

Following his dominant decision win over Josh Warrington, he moved on to the Wood bout, and Cordina showed his class once again. He slowly increased the tempo and showed impressive variation and power, which proved too much for Leigh Wood (28-4, 17 KOs).

When appearing on the ArielxAde show, Cacace (24-1, 9 KOs) made it clear he’s keeping his options open and is prepared to move up in weight for the biggest fights: “I’m up for moving up to lightweight, no problem… If I can get one of these big fights at lightweight with Shakur Stevenson, Tank Davis These are all big fights that I would love to entertain, and they’re the fights that I’ve got into boxing for,” said Cacace.

Anthony Cacace Next Fight: Preferred Option

The more favoured option for Cacace appears to be a fight against the WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster: “I think [Foster is] who it is – that’s who we’ll get.”

“We’ll fight for the WBC [title] in Belfast soon. O’Shaquie hasn’t really [had] the opportunities, so that’s a big opportunity for him – to come over and fight me in Belfast.

“We’ll just have to see if he’s got the guts. I’ll knock him out [if the fight materialises],” said Cacace when speaking to Andi Purewal from Boxing News.

“Anto” has made it clear that he wants the biggest fights for the most money, and if Queensberry Promotions can secure a major bout at lightweight, he’s ready to move up for the opportunity.
