Boxing Fights May 2025 International: Five to Watch

Boxing Fights May 2025 International: Dave Allen vs Johnny Fisher 2 – May 17

Johnny Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) and Dave Allen (23-7-2, 18 KOs) fought on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 undercard on December 21. “The Romford Bull” ultimately won via a razor-thin split decision. Fisher survived a knockdown in the fifth and did well to hear the final bell. His performance in the first half of the fight was deemed enough by two of the judges, who scored it 95-94 for Fisher. The third judge had it 96-93 for Allen.

The rematch at the Copper Box Arena in London is fascinating and will tell us a lot about Fisher’s potential. Allen looks like he’s had great preparation and will again provide a stern test for Fisher.

Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman – May 24

At the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, an intriguing fight in the welterweight division will see Josh Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs) take on Ekow Essuman (21-1, 8 KOs). The Scotsman will be eager to get back to winning ways after losing his last two fights and only fighting four times since his historic undisputed super lightweight triumph in 2021 vs Jose Carlos Ramirez. Essuman has scored two impressive wins recently against Owen Cooper and Ben Vaughan. This should be an action-packed fight, and one to watch in May.

Anthony Cacace vs. Leigh Wood – May 10

At the Nottingham Arena on May 10, an intriguing super featherweight bout will take place with Anthony Cacace (23-1, 8 KOs) and Leigh Wood (28-3, 17 KOs) clashing for the IBO title. Wood has been inactively recently, not fighting since his 2023 win over Josh Warrington. Cacace has been in impressive form, stopping Joe Cordina and beating Warrington.

Warren recently spoke about the fight and the new relationship between DAZN and Queensberry: “We are starting as we mean to go on and, as you might expect, the heavyweights will play a big, big part in 2025 and beyond. Then Nottingham is the place to be the following month for a real banger of a fight between Anto Cacace and Leigh Wood. It is the sort of domestic blockbuster we will be seeing plenty of across the partnership between Queensberry and DAZN.”

Fernando Martinez vs. Kazuto Ioka 2 – May 11

Another rematch will take place in May, with Fernando Martinez (17-0, 9 KOs) and Kazuto Ioka (31-3-1, 16 KOs) facing off at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo. These two were set to clash in their rematch on December 31, 2024, before Martínez withdrew due to illness.

Their first fight saw Martinez outwork his Japanese opponent to win by unanimous decision (117-111, 120-108 and 116-112). Both fighters had their moments throughout the bout, and the rematch looks set to be another action-packed fight.

Serhii Bohachuk vs. Mykel Fox – May 17

Serhii Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) remains one of the most feared fighters in the super welterweight division. He will return to action on May 17 against American Mykal Fox (24-4, 5 KOs) at the Commerce Casino, Commerce. Bohachuk suffered his second career defeat against Vergil Ortiz Jr in 2024 before returning on the Usyk-Fury 2 undercard, where he comprehensively stopped Ishmael Davis.

His opponent has lost four times but has never been stopped, and it would be a statement for Bohachuk to record the stoppage win. His relentless pressure and power often prove too much for his opponents. He doesn’t stop walking forward, throwing with venom.
