Junto Nakatani to Headline Bantamweight Tripleheader in Tokyo

Top Rank have announced an intriguing bantamweight tripleheader on June 8 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. This card will see the WBC champion Junto Nakatani (30-0, 23 KOs) return to action and face the IBF title holder Ryosuke Nishida (10-0, 2 KOs) in a unification bout. Tenshin Nasukawa and Tomoya Tsuboi will also fight on the card in big fights for both.

Bantamweight Tripleheader Confirmed for Ariake Arena

Nakatani-Nishida will headline this fascinating card. Former kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa (6-0, 2 KOs) will take on Victor Santillan (14-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round bout. Nasukawa will be keen to continue his impressive rise, following his dominant win over Jason Moloney on February 24, 2025.

Completing the tripleheader card, 2021 world championship gold medalist Tomoya Tsuboi (1-0, 1 KO) will take a steep step up in class against the experienced Vietnamese fighter Van Thao Tran (18-1, 10 KOs) for the WBO Asia Pacific title.

Junto Nakatani vs Ryosuke Nishida

This is one of the best fights to make in boxing and despite Nakatani being the favourite, Nishida cannot be overlooked. He’s a southpaw fighter and very awkward to pin down. He looks to fight at a distance and frustrate opponents. When he is close, he works the body.

His best wins have come against Daigo Higa and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Nishida is tough and will look to drag Nakatani into the trenches.

Nakatani is a brutal puncher, as proven by his KO wins over Andrew Moloney and Vincent Astrolabio. Last time out, he stopped David Cuéllar in the third round of their clash. He controls his fights with his jab and can fight long or up close, carrying power in any situation. Big Bang is not easy to hurt because of his tight, long defensive guard. Nishida will need to pick his moments if he’s to upset the big-punching Nakatani. Whoever gets into their groove quicker in this fight, will be tough to stop.
