Caleb Truaux out of rematch with Quillin due to injury

The matchup of Golden taking on Kid Chocolate is once again going to have to wait.

Caleb Truax on his webpage issued a press release Wednesday that he had to pull out of his rematch August 31st against Peter Quillin. The contest was set to take place in The Armory in his home neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The injury happened during training camp was a reaggravated one that Dr. Paul Schaefer of Health Partners’ Stillwater Medical Group diagnosed as a “high-grade, partial-thickness tear of the Achilles tendon on his right ankle,” in the release.

Truax initially sustained the Achilles injury in March, and the nature of the high-grade tear presented surgery and non-operative management as options. Truax elected for the latter option, starting with six weeks in a boot, then he transitioned to physical therapy and was progressing. But as his workouts intensified, he was concerned about the strength of his Achilles tendon before a scheduled sparring session.

“In my judgment, he will not be properly rehabbed and conditioned in time for the scheduled match,” Dr. Schaefer said in the press release. “I am concerned he would put his personal safety at risk engaging in this fight.”

This match was to be a restart of their match they had back at the same venue back in April that took place on the FS1 card that ended in a no-contest. The main event of the bill is Erislandy Lara taking on Ramon Alvarez for the WBA Super Welterweight Interim title.

Traux himself is disappointed that he had to withdraw from the bout which was set up as an IBF super middleweight title eliminator with the winner getting a shot at current champ Caleb Plant.

“I’ve been training hard every day, and I’ve always prided myself on pushing through any injuries,” Truax said on his website. “But I know my body, and I know when enough is enough.

“I’m disappointed because this was a huge opportunity to take a big step toward regaining my IBF super middleweight title,” he adds. “I’m disappointed for all my fans because I wanted to put on a great show for them at The Armory. But I didn’t want to go into this fight, not being able to perform at a level that people are used to seeing from me and also performing at a level so I can defeat a world-class fighter like Peter Quillin.”

We’ll see what will they do now that this one is scrapped. Plant said in a tweet by ESPN’s Steve Kim stated he’d take on Quillin so he can start to unify the belts at 168.
