Dillian Whyte Surprisingly Backs Anthony Joshua After Dubois Defeat

On September 21 at Wembley Stadium, Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) delivered a career-best performance, defeating Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) by fifth-round KO, dropping him four times en route. This was the main event of a stacked Riyadh Season card. Many have spoken since, speculating on AJ vs. Dubois II or whether Joshua will return. Dillian Whyte (30-3, 20 KOs) an old rival of Joshua has shared his thoughts with Sky Sports News on whether the Watford fighter can resurrect his career.

Whyte Believes Joshua Has a Lot to Offer

Whyte will be returning to action on December 15 to face Ebenezer Tetteh, who was blown away in one round by Dubois in 2019. When talking to Sky Sports, “The Body Snatcher” spoke about his old rival AJ and whether there’s a way back to the top: “He’s still got a lot of fight left in him.”

“He’s still got a lot left in the tank and he’s still a big draw. And as you can see in the fight, he’s still a big puncher. He had Dubois going before Dubois landed the finishing blow,” Whyte said. He continued: “It’s hard to say, he’s young, he’s strong, he looks in amazing shape. He’s still got a lot of fight left in him.”

Bouncing Back

Dubois will return to action in February, while a potential rematch with AJ seems a future option. Despite the rematch between AJ and “Dynamite” being delayed, it appears Whyte believes his old rival can make a successful return: “People put too much emphasis on a defeat in heavyweight boxing,” Whyte said. “That’s why a lot of fights don’t happen.”

“The Body Snatcher” added: “They don’t get made because people put a lot of emphasis on win, lose and draw instead of enjoying the fact that two top guys are fighting each other now, which wasn’t happening a few years ago.”
