William Zepeda Issues Challenge, Shakur Stevenson Responds Swiftly

On Saturday, November 16 at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the undercard for Chris Billam-Smith against Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, William Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) dug deep and survived a shock fourth-round knockdown to defeat the wily Tevin Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs). The entire card was streamed on DAZN and promoted by Golden Boy. Following the narrow win, “Camaron” was asked about a possible world title fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

Shakur Stevenson Reacts to William Zepeda

Zepeda has impressed throughout his professional career and has rarely had any moments of difficulty. He has recorded eye-catching wins over Giovanni Cabrera, Maxi Hughes and Joseph Diaz who had only lost twice until that point.

Following the toughest test of his career, Zepeda was asked about facing WBC champ Stevenson, and he didn’t hide what he wants next: “Yeah, we’re just waiting now, we’re waiting with confidence to receive that offer, that firm offer.” He continued: “For the opportunity and we’ll take the opportunity, obviously.”

The Zepeda-Stevenson fight has been mooted for a while now and has been delayed due to the injury sustained by Stevenson. Following Zepeda’s post-fight interview, Stevenson was quick to respond via his X account and described “Camaron” as “Food.”

Shortly after, Stevenson posted again, seemingly looking forward to facing someone with Zepeda’s style: “Zepeda throws non stop punches I never fought a pressure fighter in the pros that doesn’t stop puncher, This gone be fun!”

Shakur Stevenson Plans

Before joining Matchroom, Shakur spoke to IFLTV about who he would like to face, and the WBC champ said: “I like Zepeda. If we can’t get Zepeda, I think Kambosos has been talking a lot on Twitter. I would love to set up a fight in Australia and make him 0-4 down there. Him, Tank, Lomachenko. Whoever we can get in the ring, that’s the biggest and best fighters.”

It seems Stevenson-Zepeda looks likely to happen next, and it should be a fascinating clash of styles, but away from the fight itself, Eddie Hearn vs. Oscar De La Hoya in the build-up would be box office gold.
