Nathan Heaney vs. Brad Pauls 2: Press Conference Quotes and Fight Prediction
Nathan Heaney (18-0-1, 6 KOs) will defend his British middleweight title once more against Brad Pauls (18-1-1, 10 KOs).
Their rematch headlines a Queensberry Promotions card at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England. Fight fans in the United Kingdom can catch the action live on TNT Sports and discovery+. Those in the United States can do so on ESPN+. Previously, Heaney and Pauls put on an all-classic at the same venue in a fight that ended in a split draw.
Ahead of their July 20 clash, the two spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.
Nathan Heaney vs. Brad Pauls 2 Press Conference Quotes
Nathan Heaney
“No, I don’t [think the first fight was close],” said Heaney. “To be honest, the first seven rounds…were easy…I switched off and that allowed him to catch me in round eight. Obviously, I still finished the round strong in round eight and had a great round nine and obviously he caught me in round 11, it’s just one of them…When he says he won the fight I just don’t know how you can even [score it that way]. It’s amazing that there was a draw to be honest, but, like it was a competitive fight, I still won the fight by two or three rounds. So it’s still competitive and close, but I didn’t agree with it being a draw at all.”
Brad Pauls
“Yeah [this is a chance to right a wrong],” said Pauls. “I wouldn’t say [the first fight was] like a robbery or anything like that. Like I said previously, maybe slightly unjust. But, I’m just really grateful to get another chance. Seemed like the right thing to do. I got to respect Nathan and his team for getting the rematch on. I think because the people enjoyed the first fight so much is why we’re getting a second. So yeah, another entertaining one on Saturday night.”
Fight Prediction
Around the middle rounds of the first fight, Pauls appeared to show signs of fatigue, more so than Heaney. Should this be the case in the rematch, Heaney should be able to exploit that if he makes the right adjustments. While the British middleweight champion has a lower knockout percentage than Pauls, he does have the ability to box at range and win rounds. Expect Heaney to win this time round via unanimous decision.
