Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in action in Jalisco
After a two-year layoff outside of the ring, we now have the return of Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr. back into one.
Son of the legendary boxer Julio Ceasar Chavez, Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KO’s) will face Colombian veteran Evert Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KO’s) on Saturday, August 10.
In a report from Boxingscene.com, The contest is held at the Premier Diamond Salon in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. The site agreement was reached on Thursday, thanks to the efforts of the director of Mega Events, Héctor Garcia and the Government of Jalisco per Boxingscene.
The fight card itself will be aired but in Mexico, as it will be carried over the air on Azteca 7, and is promoted by Zanfer Promotions.
This return for Chavez Jr. will be his first time in the ring since May 2017. In that match, he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was after this fight that Alvarez would begin the battles with Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin.
He feels that fighting at his natural weight of super middleweight, and with a new corner, Chavez feels positive about being able to capture another world title. Chavez Jr. is now training with experienced coach Romulo Quirarte in Tijuana, Mexico.
Chavez Jr. was the first Mexican to become a world middleweight champion, when he defeated Sebastian Zbik for the WBC title in June 2011. By achieving that, Chavez Jr. and his father became the second Mexican father-son pair to become world champions with Guty Espada and Guty Espada Jr. being the others.
It will be the first time that Chávez Jr. fights in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
His challenger, Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KO’s), is a boxer with plenty of ring experience. Bravo, 34, has spent around 15 years as a pro. The Colombian veteran matches up in size to Chavez Jr., and in his most recent fight, he knocked out Luis Gonzalez in four rounds.
Throughout his career, he’s fought all over the world and faced names such as Sean Monaghan, Junior Younan, and Alfredo Angulo to losing efforts. In his only fight in Mexico, he was knocked out by Roamer Alexis Angulo in February of 2018. We’ll see if this will knock off the ring rust of the former champ next month.
