Francis Ngannou Next Fight: Heavyweight Discusses MMA and Boxing

On March 8, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua and Ngannou met in the ring for the main event of “Knockout Chaos.” The fight began with both looking to feel each other out, with Ngannou surprisingly switching stances during the opening round. The Cameroon-born heavyweight also looked to back Joshua up with left hooks.

Despite the seemingly confident opening two minutes from Ngannou, it didn’t take AJ long to find his range, and he landed a heavy straight right, which floored the ex-UFC star. The rest of the opening round saw patience from AJ as he studied Ngannou and feigned attacks, which saw his opponent flinching constantly. A heavy short right hand floored Ngannou in round two, leaving him dazed as he beat the count. AJ immediately pounced, landing a monstrous overhand right, which folded his opponent and ended the main event in devastating fashion.

During the Q&A Ngannou spoke about the defeat to Joshua: “It didn’t go our way,” said the ex-UFC star. The Cameroon-born fighter spoke about his training camp in Riyadh and how well it went but said: “I remember being in the locker (fight night), trying to warm up. It wasn’t going. I was feeling asleep.”

Despite mentioning he didn’t feel himself on fight night, Ngannou paid respects to Joshua and his team and admitted: “I was the only one that didn’t show up.” He added: “All the blame here is about me.”

Ngannou confirmed during the Q&A – his next fight in the PFL will be against Renan Ferreira. He was then asked if he would fight Wilder, and he said without hesitation: “Yes of course.” He added: “I’m a fighter. We’re here to fight, and when it comes fighting, whenever it’s time to fight, we go and fight.”

“The journey is on. We are not done yet.”
