Errol Spence Jr. And Terence Crawford Make Their Grand Arrival
Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) and Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) made their grand arrival in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, ahead of their undisputed welterweight clash on July 29. Spence puts his WBA, WBC, and IBF titles on the line while Crawford will have his WBO belt at stake in a fight headlining a Showtime Boxing pay-per-view (PPV). The bout will headline an event at the T-Mobile Arena.
Saturday night’s winner could emerge as the top pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. No fighter has ever been the undisputed welterweight champion in the four-belt era. The last time a fighter held undisputed status at welterweight was Zab Judah, who held the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles until 2006. Both Spence and Crawford understand the significance of their bout.
“It would be a dream come true to become the first welterweight undisputed champion of the world in the four-belt era,” said Spence. “I watched all the great fighters as a kid. Now, I get to have my moment. I want the bright lights and the glory…He’s in his prime. I’m in my prime. We are the two best fighters in the welterweight division. The winner of the fight on Saturday night will be the best fighter in boxing.”

“It’s going to be even sweeter to win the undisputed championship for the second time,” said Crawford, who previously held the distinction at 140 and can become the second man to become undisputed at two weight classes. “That’s why we take the chances we take. That’s why we fight the way we fight. This is a fight that the world’s been craving. My name is already up there with the all-time greatest welterweight fighters. It’s just a matter of going out there on Saturday and putting the cherry on top and furthering my legacy.”
Spence vs. Crawford undercard fights
Fight fans will not want to miss out on undercard action which promises to be very exciting. In addition to Spence and Crawford, undercard fighters also made their grand arrival in Las Vegas. Prior to the main event there are three fights that will be part of the PPV, including a matchup for the vacant WBC bantamweight title. Additionally, two bouts will be available live on YouTube.
Opening the PPV is a super welterweight clash between Yoenis Tellez (5-0, 4 KOs) and Sergio Garcia (34-2, 14 KOs). Tellez’s handlers appear confident in him and he looks to make an impact early in his professional career. Garcia was originally going to take on Jesus Ramos Jr. in the second fight of the PPV. However, Tellez stepped in following an injury to Ramos.
Following the opener is yet another title fight for Nonito Donaire Jr. (42-7, 28 KOs) as he faces Alexandro Santiago (27-3-5, 14 KOs). Originally, this fight was going to take place on the Frank Martin-Artem Harutyunyan undercard. It got pushed forward by two weeks following the cancellation of a heavyweight fight between Gurgen Hovhannisyan and Viktor Faust.
Prior to the main event, Isaac Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) faces Giovanni Cabrera (21-0, 7 KOs) in a WBA and WBC lightweight eliminator. Those titles are currently held by undisputed champion Devin Haney. The bout marks the first fight of 2023 for both men.
Opening the card on YouTube, Steven Nelson (18-0, 15 KOs) takes on Rowdy Montgomery (10-4-1, 7 KOs) in a super middleweight clash. At super bantamweight, Aston Palicite (28-5-1, 23 KOs) faces Jose Salas Reyes (12-0, 9 KOs).
