Ryan Garcia Confirms Split With Trainer Goossen
Off his pay-per-view KO loss to Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia has decided to make changes and that includes parting ways with his trainer for his last three of his fights, Joe Goossen.
Garcia confirmed the move on social media on Monday afternoon by re-tweeting something written my ESPN’s Mike Coppinger about the split

That ends several days of speculation, where it was believed that Garcia and Goossen were going to part company after the April 21st bout in Las Vegas.
Garcia actually addressed the speculation on Friday afternoon in this social media post claiming that he had not made up his mind as to what to do after suffering his first defeat. Obviously that changed over the weekend after the 23-year-old Garcia has had time to contemplate what his next move will be.
I haven’t talked to anyone regarding how I’m going to move Foward. I’m taking time to think about a lot of things. I wanted to make that VERY CLEAR! https://t.co/95d1MmyogT

Davis scored the 7th round TKO landing a body shot to Garcia’s upper right side, which had been reportedly injured in his training by sparring partner. Saturday night The “Showtime All Access,” behind the scenes program of Davis-Garcia aired after the replay on the network of the pay-per-view Saturday. And, it revealed a quick exchange, immediately after Garcia was counted out while on knee, between Goossen and Garcia that confirmed the injured rib on his right side.
Goosen asked the fighter, “did it hit that rib part at all Ryan?” and Garcia responded, “Yeah.” To which Goossen added “I knew it,” while Garcia confirmed what many believed- that he simply didn’t want to fight any longer by saying to his now former trainer, “I didn’t want to continue because of my rib.”
Goosen has distinguished resume
Goossen is a prominent trainer who has worked with the likes of former world champions Michael Nunn, the late Diego Corrales and also, former unified heavyweight title holder Andy Ruiz. Goossen came aboard with Garcia last year for his two fights, which were s decision victory over Emanuel Tagoe and a KO of Javier Fortuna.
Garcia previously was trained by famed Mexican cornerman Eddie Reynoso, who most notably is the trainer and close confidant of Canelo Alvarez. Garcia publicly stated that in parting with Reynoso was in part, because he didn’t feel he was getting enough attention as opposed to Canelo and other fighters in the camp.
Garcia certainly has talent in popularity, but now, is clearly at a crossroads after suffering a defeat and deciding to make yet another change in terms of helping in preparation for fights
