David Morrell Jr. Brings A Fun & Aggressive Style to Davis vs. Garcia Card
WBA Champion David Morrell Jr. vs. Yamaguchi Falcao will be featured on the PPV portion of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryan Garcia card.
It’s fight week for boxing’s youngest stars as Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (28-0) meets Ryan Garcia (23-0) live this Saturday on PPV. The undercard will feature 25-year-old WBA super middleweight champion David Morrell Jr. (8-0) who will now face Yamaguchi Falcao (24-1-1). I say now as Morrell was scheduled to meet Sena Agbeko (27-2), but some medical issues came up which will not allow the 31-year-old Ghana contender to fight on the card.
The show must go on, and Morrell will face Falcao on one of the biggest cards in recent years. The last time we saw Morrell was back in November when he beat down Aidos Yerbossynuly (16-1), which ended in a twelfth-round knockout. Yerbossynuly ended up in the hospital after the fight, and Morrell picked up the eighth win as a professional. During that fight, Morrell showed some real boxing IQ and used his aggression in spots while also boxing well. When looking back at that fight, Morrell told Big Fight Weekend, “It was the best fight you have seen from me, but it wasn’t the most difficult. Without disrespecting my previous opponents, I haven’t fought anyone who has forced me to be my best.”
Like his previous fights, Morrell left his residence in Minneapolis, MN, and headed to the great state of Texas to meet up with his trainer Ronnie Shields. It’s there where all the hard work is done, but what does Morrell do in his downtime when he isn’t hard at work? Morrell told Big Fight Weekend, “I mostly play video games, watch Netflix and speak to my mom over the phone. When I’m closing in on fight week, I just train and go to sleep while listening to some music.”
When you go on Morrell’s Instagram page, you’ll see him dancing to plenty of songs as he enjoys music like anyone else. “Since I was a young kid, I’ve always enjoyed singing and listening to music. I love to dance. It’s something I will never get tired of doing. Music destresses me as well,” said the Cuban southpaw.

On Saturday night, Morrell will get to display his skills in front of a packed crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and the potentially million homes on PPV. So what should those watching expect from Morrell? “They are going to see an even better version of me. Many people thought I only had an aggressive style, but I’ve also shown I can box and move. In this fight, I will display all the work I’ve done in camp. We are going to do some great things come April 22.”
