Conah Walker vs. Sam Eggington press conference quotes
Sam Eggington
“I’ve done a lot of fights,” said Eggington. “I’ve won all the belts. And again, I love my job. The motivation is to keep the job you want to do, ain’t it? The more you lose, you’re going to have to pack it in. The fact is, I need to carry on winning to keep the job that I want to do and that is my motivation. I love what I do. It gives me the freedom with family and stuff like that. Again, my motivation is to keep the job that I love to do.”
“I always say the runners and the boxer types, it’s always a hard night [against them]. The guys that want to come in and have a go, it’s meat and drink. I love that stuff. Conah, he’s very much the same. It’s why it was so easy to make. It’s why when it was put to us, we snapped it up in a heartbeat…”
Conah Walker
“It’s been a journey,” said Walker. “[My career] has been a journey. It’s been a rollercoaster. From start to end my whole career. I fought an undefeated fighter in my fourth fight. Another undefeated fighter in my fifth fight. It’s just the way I’ve done things. I don’t like to take the easy route. Look, there was easier options on the table. I wanted Sam. I was asking for him last year. Nothing against Sam. I think he’s a great fighter. We get on outside the ring, but business is business…”
“Dangerous fighters are people that got it all to lose. Same as Sam, this is my dream job. I’ve got to put food on my table. This is what I love to do. There’s pressure in every walk of life, not just boxing. There’s pressure everywhere you look. Boxing is what I enjoy. Boxing is what I love and challenging myself is what I love and this is a big challenge…”
Fight prediction
From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Walker is a relentless pressure fighter. His stamina is exceptional, and this helps him maintain a punishing pace throughout a fight. This was especially seen in the win over Harry Scarff. His high-volume combination punching was vital in overwhelming Pat McCormack. His power is underrated, but he has shown he’s capable of hurting opponents. His bravery ensures he’s often involved in wars, and this fight with Eggington looks set to be no different.
Eggington also has incredible durability and looks to apply continuous pressure. He will sit on his opponent’s chest and trade punches, matching him perfectly with Walker. It feels like this cannot be a boring fight, but it just feels like Walker has moved onto a different level in recent fights. Eggington will have his moments, but we are backing Walker to get the win by unanimous decision.
