It’s official: Wilder-Fury 2 in 2020

WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder posted a cryptic tweet of a big announcement late Friday. The last time he had done this, he promised death to mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale, who despite being stopped early, is alive and well.

This update, however, is a much more inspiring message as the much-anticipated rematch with the “Gypsy King” Tyson Fury is signed and set to take place in early 2020. He confirmed on his Twitter this evening.

Wilder, in his tweet, posted:

“Well, As I always say I’m the realest Champion in the business and as I’ve mentioned before I must handle all my Controversial
Fights ASAP‼️

Boxing Insider Mike Coppinger mentioned in his tweet on the rematch the following details:

“The rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury is a done deal, as Wilder himself just announced. Looks like it will take place in the early part of 2020. First PBC-Top Rank co-promotion since Mayweather-Pacquiao in 2015. I expect a joint PPV, but remains to be seen.”

This fight is fantastic news on so many levels not only on the heavyweight division but for the sport of boxing as a whole. This match will also be the first fight made between promotions Top Rank Boxing and Premier Boxing Champions since the megafight of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather in 2015 which itself had to deal with numerous delays and failed negotiations. It also shows that in the best interest of boxing that fellow promoters Bob Arum and Al Haymon can put their differences aside for what will be the biggest anticipated fight of 2020.

Wilder in the same tweet mentioned that he wasn’t looking past Luis Ortiz in the rematch that was just announced Tuesday but did, in the same tweet said the following:

“By no means I’m I looking pass Ortiz, He’s a dangerous fighter but  I am looking through him. (Window Shopping) Shid, I’m the best ain’t No guess’N… what other champion Give you what your Miss’N…”

All of these statements, of course, come on the same week as multiple belt champion Anthony Joshua is set to take on Andy Ruiz in Madison Square Garden this Saturday in his US debut.
