Tim Tszyu On Wednesday Hogan Bout- “Not Gonna Be Warm Up”

Coming up Wednesday night in Australia, unbeaten, rising Jr. Middleweight star Tim Tszyu is back in the ring, and he made clear on Monday that he doesn’t want to hear talk of  how easy fighting veteran Dennis Hogan will be.

Tszyu, 17-0, 13 KOs,  is scheduled to face Hogan in the 10 round main event in front of over 10,000 of his fans in Newcastle and he bristled at the bout being characterized as a “warm up” for future title contention,

“It’s gonna be a tough fight. Look, I don’t make fights easy. When I get in the ring, I’m not gonna ‘tip and tap’…I’m here to hurt my opponents. And, it’s not gonna be no ‘warm up fight’ that’s for sure,” Tszyu said at the presser.

But, while Tszyu is defending the selection of the 28-3-1 Hogan, most believe he will make short work of him.

This after his last bout in December destroying New Zealander Bowyn Morgan in the first round.  Tszyu dropped Morgan just over a minute into the opening round with a barrage of punches culminated by a right uppercut.  Referee John Cauchi allowed the fight to continue, even though Morgan looked wobbly and Tszyu, immediately ended things with a wicked overhand right dropping Morgan for the second time. Cauchi didn’t bother to count.

The 26 year old Australian and son of the former Hall of Fame fighter Kostya Tszyu has made quite a name for himself over the last year and a half. This includes his August 8th round TKO stoppage of former WBO World Welterweight champion and popular Australian fighter, Jeff Horn.

Hogan was stopped by Jermall Charlo in the 7th round of their WBC title bout in December of 2019. He also previously lost a WBO world title challenge to Jaime Munguia earlier in 2019.

The Tszyu-Hogan battle will take place at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Broadmeadow, New South Wales.  His father headlined in Newcastle seven previous times. So, there will be a raucous crowd for him Wednesday for sure.

Tszyu fought the Morgan detruction in front of over 15,000 fans outdoors at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, Australia and is now the most popular current fighter in Australia.

And, if he’s victorious again, Tszyu will likely get a shot at newly crowned WBO 154 lb. champ, Brian Castano in late 2021.
