Potential Matchup Between Adrien Broner and Regis Prograis?

Following his victory Saturday night, former four-weight class champion Adrien Broner was asked about who would be next for him in the ring. One name that was mentioned was former WBA light-welterweight champion Regis Prograis as a possibility.

“Um, maybe not next,” Broner said during a post-fight press conference when asked about the matchup. “I don’t see that next. But if it do come next, it don’t matter. It don’t matter. I’m gonna win. I’m gonna f–k buddy up.”

Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs, 1 NC) was in action Saturday night after an over two-year absence from the ring e to win a unanimous tactical decision over Jovanie Santiago. While he doesn’t think that fight is next, Broner believes it will happen down the line.

“Prograis, like I always tell everybody, and I always tell everybody this – he keep yelling my name, and he’s doing what he’s supposed to do,” Broner said. “You know, when I was coming up, you know, I was calling everybody out. He’s only doing what he’s supposed to do, but like I always tell him, just keep doing your thing. I wish him nothing but the best. Every time he fight, I hope he win. But like I said, man, if he get in the ring with me, I’m gonna f–k him up.”

Prograis (25-1, 20 KOs ), while watching Broner on Showtime Saturday night, live-tweeted that he felt Broner wasn’t the same guy.

“I’m gonna say it now. AB is past his prime. He’s 31 but he’s an old 31. He’s been boxing since he was 6,7 years old, and he’s had too many hard fights. He’s not the old AB. His reflexes aren’t there anymore, and he’s slowing down. He should still beat this dude, though,” Prograis tweeted Saturday.

If these two were to fight next, Prograis would be an overwhelming favorite, considering Santiago’s output and rust Broner. Prograis is coming off a third-round stoppage win last October over the then-undefeated Juan Heraldez. Speaking with Pro Boxing Fans in response to Broner’s comments, Prograis pretty much expected what he said pretty much.

“He not gonna say ‘he gonna beat me’ and all that, it’s Adrien Broner. Adrien Broner’s a clown. He’s going to say what he’s going to say,” Prograis stated.”I think deep down he knows. Don’t come f–king with me. I think deep down he knows I’m way too dangerous. I’m way too dangerous.

“I’m faster than him. I feel like I’m tougher than him, I’m definitely stronger than him, my chin is hard. How can you beat me? What can you do to beat me? Especially if I’m on my game that night.

The biggest question surrounding this fight is Broner. That will always be the case as long as his name is attached to any potential fight, given his recent track record. In the meantime, let’s see if they give Broner another stagy busy while I’d like to see Prograis ake on Mario Barrios until then.
