Three Boxing Things I’m looking for 9/26
We got an action-packed weekend of boxing and with this great weekend of fights slated ahead so let me give you today the three boxing things I am looking for in the world of boxing for Saturday, September 26th.

Here are the three things that I’m looking forward to this weekend:
The Charlo Doubleheader pay-per-view

This is a no-brainer as everybody and their great-grandma in the world of boxing has been looking forward to this stacked pay-per-view event for several weeks now and the build-up, hype, and promotion to it will finally pay off tonight in the “Fightshphere” in the Mohegan Sun Casino.
Jermall Charlo had a clear message for, Sergiy Derevyanchenko heading up to the fight that will close out the first half of the pay-per-view. One that had flashbacks for me personally.
“This is just the beginning. 30 of them tried (to beat him), 30 of the failed. We’ll get a chance to get in there and do what we got to do on Saturday. Talk is cheap. What’s your mind frame? We’ll see where the ‘green belt (WBC)’ goes?,” Charlo said at the press conference this week.
The 30 off them tried line is a flashback of the Floyd Mayweather line heading into taking on Victor Ortiz,”They put 41 in front of me, and 41 came up short.”
A lot of the boxing world has this fight being a pick ’em , 50-50 and I don’t see that at all personally. I think Charlo gets to Derevyanchenko early and makes this a mid-round stoppage.

The second part of the cart is closed out with the unification bout between Jermall Charlo taking on Jeison Rosario at 154 pounds. This fight is huge as the winner of this bout will have three of the four major pieces of the 154 crown.
I’ve been sticking to my guns and have said as much on this week’s podcast why I’m picking Rosario to upset Jermell in the unification bout to close out the event and it follows the same thinking that Jorge Cota, a common opponent who has suffered a loss to both two stated earlier this week when making his pick on the fight.
“Even though my fight went the distance against Rosario, I felt the power of every single punch he threw, whether it was on the arms, the shoulders, the chest, the stomach or the head,” Cota said picking a winner of the Charlo-Rosario fight that will close out the SHowtime PPV “I never really felt Charlo’s power until he caught me with that one punch. So with that in mind, I believe that Rosario will do similar damage to Charlo, wearing him down before finally stopping him in around the 10th round.”
That is sound reasoning but those picking the favorite Charlo can easily point to that one punch as being something to end many nights, as it did for him and possibly Rosario tonight.

Josh Taylor one step closer to the undisputed bout

WBA/IBF junior welterweight world champion, Josh Taylor, will make his return to the ring from against IBF No. 1 contender, Apinun Khongsong as he makes his mandatory defense.
The mandatory defense for Taylor will be his first time back in the ring since the great fight he had against Regis Prograis last year to become unified champion. This contest will put him one step closer to the undisputed contest against Jose Ramirez that many have been waiting for this year that has been pushed back due to mandatories defenses like this one and the pandemic.
The undefeated Khongsong earned his way here and has shown in what I’ve seen some power but this is a huge step up in competition for him and many expect Taylor to get the stoppage win in the middle rounds of this one.
The World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Final
World Boxing Super Series
It took several countries and dates but we are finally getting the World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight final between Mairis Briedis and Yuniel Dorticos in Munich, Germany for the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
What is at stake is simple, winner of the prolonged tourney is the #1 ranked fighter at cruiserweight, plain and simple.
Briedis is out to quiet naysayers of his poorly officiated win against Krzysztof Glowacki and Dorticos is getting a second crack at being the champion at cruiserweight in this tourney coming up short last time against Murat Gassiev. This fight has been one I’ve waited on for a while and felt like it came out of nowhere to be announced but it is definitely one to watch this weekend.
