Unbeaten Heavyweight Kabayel won lopsided Saturday fight

Saturday night, unbeaten German fringe heavyweight Contender Agit Kabayel returned to the ring for only his second fight in the last 27 months. And, he scored a lopsided, but largely unimpressive, decision win over Greek born- Evgenios Lazaridis

Kabayel is now 20 – 0, 13 Kos, and won virtually every round of the fight dominating his larger opponent with quicker hands and a harder overhand right

This fight was the 10-round main event in Magadeburg in front of approximately 500 socially distanced fans and fight personnel.

The good news is that, despite it not being a 12 round battle, with the victory Kabayel secured the WBA Continental Heavyweight title.

The bad news is he wasn’t able to put away 32 year old, now 16 – 3, Lazaridis, whom he was supposed to dominate.

The obviously faster and more talented Kabayel did have the 6′ 6  Lazaridis in trouble for a possible stoppage at the end of the eighth round, but the fighter, who was born in Greece, but who has lived and fought most of his career professionally in Germany, showed some heart and guts to hang in for the final two rounds.

In the end, the judges had it 100 – 90,  99 – 91 and the third judge, 98- 92.

Kabayel, who is promoted by European promotion SES Boxing,  just did a joint promotional agreement with Top Rank Boxing in hopes of getting bigger fights, now that the sport has resumed. He was expected to make his U.S. debut this Summer up until the Coronavirus outbreak.

Previously, the biggest victory of his career to this point came in November of 2017, when he scored a majority decision main event win for the European Heavyweight Title over Britain’s Dereck Chisora. However, after making two defenses of the title in 2018 and early 2019, he was stripped of the belt for not being active enough prior to the Covid-19 shutdown of the sport four months ago.

He is currently ranked #11 by the WBA in their latest rankings.
