Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi live results update

Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi fight recap

Floyd Schofield (20-0, 13 KOs) traded knockdowns with Lucas Bahdi (20-1, 15 KOs), but ultimately emerged as the winner by unanimous decision.

Scores were 119-108, 116-110, and 115-111. Schofield is now the WBA lightweight world champion with the victory. Gervonta Davis, who was the previous titleholder, was stripped of the belt. That allowed for the title to be put on the line for Schofield-Bahdi.

Bahdi began the fight on the front foot and stuck to that approach. Schofield used the entirety of the ring to his advantage, working behind a jab and looking to outbox his opponent. Bahdi appeared to be relying on his power to eventually win the fight as he was not throwing at a high volume.

Bahdi was stunned on two occasions by right hands in the third. He was ruled knocked down towards the end of round three after falling onto the ropes following a check left hook. Despite a tumultuous round for the Canadian, he continued with his come-forward approach. Schofield, on the other hand, continued moving around the ring and outboxing his opponent.

Both men traded hard hooks and looping punches in the sixth, rocking each other in tandem. Schofield now boxed out of the southpaw stance. Subsequent rounds saw Bahdi follow his opponent around the ring with limited offensive success.

Schofield’s knee appeared to touch the canvas in the ninth after a right hand to the head, but the sequence was not ruled a knockdown by the referee.

Schofield was ruled knocked down after a right hook in round 11, but replays showed that his foot had been stepped on. It did not impact who won the fight, however, as all three judges had the American ahead after 12. Schofield’s consistent work had clearly been favoured over what Bahdi did, which was to time the shot that would get him the knockout. That knockout never came as Schofield wound up becoming the new WBA lightweight world champion.

Ricardo Sandoval vs. Sergio Mendoza fight recap

Sergio Mendoza (28-1, 24 KOs) stunned Ricardo Sandoval (27-3, 18 KOs), winning by fifth round technical knockout.

The official time of stoppage was 1:46. Mendoza is now the WBA and WBC flyweight world champion with the victory. This is his first time winning a championship belt. Mendoza had previously challenged Thanongsak Simsri for the IBF light flyweight world title, losing by second round knockout.

Both men threw hooks early on and it was not long before Sandoval found himself on the canvas. Mendoza landed a right hook to the head that dropped his opponent in round two. Not long after getting up, Sandoval was dropped a second time by a left uppercut.

Despite the early knockdowns, the reigning champion continued to fight aggressively. That approach would prove to be his downfall. Although Sandoval was able to land hooks by being aggressive, he continued to get tagged.

Mendoza scored a third knockdown in round five with a right hook to the head. Sandoval got up once again, but was pursued around the ring. After Mendoza landed a series of hard shots, referee Mark Nelson stepped in to end proceedings with Sandoval still standing.
