Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi face the cameras

Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) soon faces Lucas Bahdi (20-0, 15 KOs) for the vacant WBA lightweight world title.

Their bout headlines a Golden Boy Promotions card – in co-promotion with Most Valuable Promotions – at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL. Fight fans around the world will be able to catch the action live on DAZN.

Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Oct. 10 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Bahdi press conference quotes

Floyd Schofield

“This fight is for my pops,” said Schofield. “At the end of the day, he sacrificed his whole life for me just to be in this position. So I got a lot to prove Saturday.”

“I think Lucas Bahdi is a good fighter. And Saturday night, he’s going to have to show me what his team is cheering for.”

“My life changes a lot. Not only for me, but for my team and my family. That’s what I’m fighting for. I got a lot of people riding on this fight. So Saturday night, this fight is for them. It’s not just about me.”

Lucas Bahdi

“The top two guys in the division are going to war,” said Bahdi. “This is what it’s about, and I’m ready.”

“I’m very proud to be Canadian. I wear that flag on my back when I enter the ring. That was all part of the journey. Now here we are. We’re fighting for the world title, and I’m ready.”

“This is always what I’ve seen in myself. I belong here, and I’m going to show the world Saturday.”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Schofield has had plenty to say throughout his professional career, as has his trainer and father, Floyd Schofield Sr.

Despite the brash confidence from both, “Kid Austin” is a talented fighter. He has lightning-fast hand speed and KO power. When he has his opponent hurt, he stays poised and continues to pick his punches with venom.

Bahdi will not back down or shy away from Schofield’s power. He carries his own power, as proven by the viral KO of Ashton Sylve. He won’t panic while under fire and will keep firing back.

This could be a firefight for however long it lasts. Despite Bahdi’s progression and improvements, we are backing Schofield to be too fast and too accurate, and win by unanimous decision. A stoppage win here for either would be a huge message, but the win will be huge. Big Fight Weekend are backing Schofield.
