Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez: Keith Thurman names who he favours
On August 22, Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez headlines a Premier Boxing Champions card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Romero’s WBA welterweight title will be on the line. Fight fans can catch the action on DAZN PPV, Ultimate Tier, and Prime Video.
Ahead of this world title bout, former unified welterweight world champion Keith Thurman spoke to Fight Hub TV, where he revealed who he favours in the August 22 main event.
Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez set for August 22 showdown
Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) will be defending the WBA title for the first time since they elevated him. He hasn’t fought since beating Ryan Garcia on the Times Square card. Rolly’s best wins came against Garcia and Manuel Jaimes.
Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) was outclassed last time out against Shakur Stevenson earlier this year. Teo will be aiming to become a three-division world champion by beating Rolly. If Lopez is at his best, it’s difficult to see him not winning the title. If he underestimates Rolly, we could see another upset win for Romero.
Keith Thurman names who he favours for Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez
Looking ahead to Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez on August 22, Thurman said:
“I’m more interested in what kind of Rolly are we gonna see? How eager is Teo to make a statement at 147? I favour Teo, though. I think he has what it takes to move up, and I think this is a good matchup for him.
“Matchups matter a lot. Picking your fights. So I think this is a great matchup. I think it’s a good one for the fans. It’s good for boxing. This is a fun one, and I think people, no matter who you’re supporting, you’re gonna enjoy this fight.”
“To go from a Shakur to a Rolly, you should be able to put some of the pieces together,” added Thurman.
