Lamont Roach delivers bold warning to William Zepeda

On August 1, at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Lamont Roach Jr vs William Zepeda will meet for the vacant WBC lightweight world title, live on TNT and truTV, and worldwide on DAZN. The entire event will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions in co-promotion with TGB Promotions and ProBox Promotions. Ahead of this intriguing clash, Roach spoke to Fight Hub TV, where he delivered a bold warning to Zepeda.

Lamont Roach Jr vs William Zepeda set for Las Vegas showdown

Roach (25-1-3, 10 KOs) knows what it takes to win a world title, having been the WBA super featherweight champion. He has produced two impressive performances recently, drawing with Gervonta Davis and Issac Pitbull Cruz, with many feeling he did enough to win both fights. Before the draw with Tank, Roach had won six consecutive fights since his only career defeat to Jamel Herring.

Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) was flying high, with impressive wins against Maxi Hughes and Giovanni Cabrera, before struggling in both fights against the veteran Tevin Farmer. Although winning both fights, the Mexican didn’t escape criticism. He then faced the defensive mastery of Shakur Stevenson and was thoroughly outboxed, losing by a unanimous decision.

Roach delivers bold warning to Zepeda

Looking ahead to his fight with Zepeda, Roach had a warning for his opponent:

“If his chin can hold up, then I’ll tip my hat to him. I’ll take him to dinner after I beat him. To take the shots I’m going to deliver that night, round in and round out is gonna be hard.”

When interviewer Marcos Villegas asked Roach if he was expecting to tag Zepeda a lot in the fight, he said: “Absolutely.”

“Yes, for sure. It’s William Zepeda. William Zepeda has virtually one style, one way. No one has seen him fight a different way. He has little defensive lapses, or opportunities I can capitalise on, and that’s what we’re focused on,” said Roach, when asked whether it was the defensive gaps he saw in Zepeda that made him feel this way.
