AJ looked more assured in the second round with his feet steady; he began to use his jab and follow through with the right hand, hurting Prenga. As the second round ticked by, AJ landed a crisp jab and followed through with a right, knocking Prenga almost out of the ring, with the referee waving the fight off. Joshua returns with a win, and after everything he’s been through, it’s a huge achievement; however, the two first-round knockdowns will be a huge concern for Team Joshua ahead of the likely clash with Tyson Fury.

Hamzah Sheeraz vs Simon Zachenhuber

Next up, it was Hamzah Sheeraz (24-0-1, 19 KOs) defending his WBO super middleweight title against Simon Zachenhuber (29-2, 18 KOs) in the co-main event.

It was a cagey opening three minutes, with Zachenhuber establishing his jab well. The Brit began to let his hands go in the second round, but the German challenger continued to have success with his left hand. Zachenhuber had moments in the third, but the work from Sheeraz was more telling, especially the hurtful-looking body shots.

The pressure from Sheeraz began to pay dividends in the fifth, with Zachenhuber looking weary and throwing less back. The constant pressure and body work from Sheeraz has been a huge factor. But Zachenhuber is brave and picks his punches well, fighting bravely in the sixth.

Sheeraz continued to produce the cleaner work in the eighth round, but it felt like he had coasted through the first eight rounds. It felt like a change in tempo from the Brit would get him the stoppage victory. As the fight progressed, the nature of Sheeraz just doing enough continued. The German fighter continued to show grit and had success. As the final bell sounded, it was a strange, largely underwhelming bout. The fight ultimately went to the scorecards. One judge scored it 114-114, while the other two scored it 115-113 and 116-112 for Sheeraz, who retains his WBO title by majority decision. Honestly, this was not great from Sheeraz, who should have proved levels above Zachenhuber, who is a European-level fighter.

Josh Kelly vs Caoimhin Agyarko

Next up on the Anthony Joshua vs Kristian Prenga undercard was Josh Kelly (19-1-1, 9 KOs) defending his IBF super welterweight title against Caoimhin Agyarko (18-1, 7 KOs).

It was a quiet first round, with Kelly looking the sharper of the two, with his speed standing out most. Agyarko continued to force the pace in the second, but Kelly again looked the sharper, with his speed of counters standing out most.

The fight continued to be cagey in the third and fourth, with both having their moments. Kelly’s speed stood out, but Agyarko had his moments with single shots. Kelly started the fifth brightly, landing a series of punches from various angles, which appeared to hurt the Irish fighter.

Kelly successfully controlled the distance well throughout the sixth round, using his feet well. Kelly was also deducted a point in the sixth for continued punching behind his opponent’s head, while in a clinch, breathing life into Agyarko’s challenge. The challenger enjoyed a good seventh round, using his feet to close the distance and get his work off effectively.

Agyarko enjoyed success in the eighth, still effectively closing the distance, while Kelly slowed down. The fight continued to be difficult to score, but as the tenth round began, “Black Thunder” appeared to have fought his way back into the bout. Kelly produced impressive work earlier in the tenth, but the challenger rallied to make it another close round. The cleaner work continued to come from Kelly, which, as the fight ended, felt enough. The judges’ scorecards read 114-113, and 115-112 x2, all in favour of Kelly, who retained his IBF super welterweight title.

Reito Tsutsumi vs Alvino Herrera Meza

Exciting super featherweight contender Reito Tsutsumi (5-0, 4 KOs) was up next against Alvino Herrera Meza (18-1-2, 11 KOs).

It was a blistering start from Tsutsumi, scoring two knockdowns in the opening round. His hand speed and power were overwhelming in those first three minutes. The Japanese fighter quickly got on top of his opponent and landed a big left hand, flooring Meza again, forcing the referee to wave the fight off. What’s next for Tsutsumi? He’s a huge talent!

Jacob Bank vs Pawel August

Up next was the super middleweight division, with Danish fighter Jacob Bank (20-0, 11 KOs) vs Polish-born fighter Pawel August (18-1, 7 KOs). Bank has impressed in recent fights, scoring a KO win over William Scull two fights ago. August last fought on the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov card, where he upset Simon Zachenhuber.

August started well, establishing his jab, but Bank looked untroubled and began to find his range off the back foot as the round developed. Bank began to show his impressive lateral movement and shot selection in the second round. The Danish fighter controlled the third round with his jab and stinging counters. 

August continued to show bravery over the next few rounds, but Bank continued to dominate with his slick movement and accuracy, leaving August frustrated and often two steps behind. Bank enjoyed a strong end to the fight, staying in complete control. His variation in his work was outstanding throughout, as he won 80-72 x3 on the judges’ scorecards. That was impressive from Bank! Could we have a new star in the super middleweight division?

Nishant Dev vs Cesar Diaz

In the first fight on the Anthony Joshua vs Kristian Prenga main undercard, we saw the undefeated prospect Nishant Dev (7-0, 5 KOs) vs Cesar Diaz (10-3, 5 KOs) in the super welterweight division.

Diaz took the centre of the ring in the first round, but Dev showed patience and looked to establish his jab. Dev quickly put together a smart combination, flooring Diaz. A short, sharp uppercut saw Dev score a second knockdown. Diaz showed his bravery to fight on, but the Indian fighter pounced, put together a series of hurtful punches, including a big right hand. Diaz fell to the canvas for a third time, leading the referee to wave the fight off, awarding Nishant Dev the first-round TKO victory. It was an impressive performance from the 25-year-old southpaw.
