All results from the Antonio Vargas vs Bam Rodriguez main fight card

Elif Nur Turhan vs Gabriela Tellez

Next up was IBF lightweight world champion, Elif Nur Turhan (14-0, 8 KOs), against Gabriela Tellez (7-1, 3 KOs).

It was an outstanding opening round from Tellez, as she worked impressively in between Turhan’s huge wild swings. Tellez moved her feet well and appeared untroubled by Turhan’s power in the first round. Turhan enjoyed more success in the second round, with Tellez dragged into Turhan’s type of fight.

Turhan continued to maraud forward, but Tellez had success in the fourth round, picking off the Turkish fighter as she came forward. Turhan had her moments through the first six rounds, but the more accurate work came from Tellez. The champion had her best moment near the end of the sixth round, landing a clubbing right hand that visibly shook Tellez.

Tellez had success in the eighth round, picking her moments well. Turhan landed a big right hand in the final round, which hurt Tellez, who did well to survive. The fight went to the judges’ scorecards, which read 96-94 x3, all in favour of Elif Nur Turhan, who retained her IBF title. The Turkish fighter landed the more impactful punches, but Tellez’s work was more impressive. A close fight that could have gone either way, but Turhan got the job done.

Elias Montoya Terraza vs Adrian Rodriguez

Up next in the first fight on the Antonio Vargas vs Bam Rodriguez undercard was Elias Montoya Terraza (14-0, 9 KOs) vs Adrian Rodriguez (10-1, 6 KOs) in the super featherweight division.

Terraza enjoyed a strong opening round, landing several heavy shots and looking the sharper fighter, with Rodriguez one step behind for much of the first three minutes. The second round started in a similar fashion, and Terraza soon had Rodriguez hurt, knocking him down with a right hand. The end was near, and Terraza pounced, landing a series of hurtful punches, forcing the referee to jump in and wave the fight off. What a performance from the Sinaloan resident, winning by second-round stoppage.
