Tommy Fury vs Kenan Hanjalic

Of course, we had to sit through one more mini-concert and what felt like a never-ending techno interlude before it was time for Fury’s long-awaited comeback. In the main event, Tommy Fury (11-0, 4 KOs) faced Kenan Hanjalic (5-2, 4 KOs) in a scheduled six-round cruiserweight clash.

The opening round was a mostly comfortable one for Fury, as he worked well off his stiff jab. He targeted the body effectively and landed a couple of solid right hands. A scrappy second round saw plenty of holding from both fighters, but Fury’s jab remained the most eye-catching punch. The messy exchanges continued into the third round.

Hanjalic failed to back off in round four after the referee called for a break and was subsequently deducted a point. While the Bosnian was largely the aggressor in the first half of the fight, the cleaner, more composed work came from the Brit.

Fury landed several sharp right hands in the sixth and final round. He looked in control throughout. The most important thing for Fury moving forward is to stay active. Both fighters gathered to hear the winner, and Tommy “TNT” Fury had his hand raised, winning by unanimous decision.

Roman Fury vs Josip Pehar

After what felt like three hours in Fabric nightclub and a half-time mini rap concert, it was time for Roman Fury (5-0, 2 KO) to face Josip Pehar (7-6, 1 KO) in the heavyweight division.

Fury started strong, working off his jab well. He was on the front foot, picking his shots impressively and rocking his opponent with a straight left hand. A well-timed left hand from Fury scored him a knockdown near the end of the second round.

A huge third round saw Fury land a smart jab, which hurt Pehar, who was then bundled over, with the referee scoring it a knockdown. Pehar was then deducted a point for constantly holding Roman, who was landing almost at will.

In the final round, Fury landed a heavy left hand, knocking Pehar down again. Soon after making the count, Fury landed another flurry of punches, knocking the Croatian native down for the final time, with the referee waving the fight off. You can only beat what’s in front of you, and Roman Fury did just that in the co-main event, winning by stoppage.

Nikolas Panic vs Varadi Sandor

Following another questionable musical performance, it was time for the next bout, with the light heavyweight division taking centre stage. Varadi Sandor (4-0, 2 KOs) faced Nikolas Panic (4-15, 0 KOs).

From the first bell, Sandor stayed in control, mixed his shots well and showed patience in his work. He used his footwork impressively, allowing him to dictate the tempo and distance.

The dominance continued for the remaining two rounds as the 18-year-old picked his shots well. He displayed some excellent body work, which will prove invaluable when in six-round bouts and beyond. Unsurprisingly, Sandor was announced the winner by unanimous decision.

Valentin Koloszar vs Alexandru Ionita

After a delay and an opening musical number and cringy monologue to start the gala, it was time for Valentin Koloszar (2-0, 1 KO) to face Alexandru Ionita (7-35-1, 5 KOs) in a scheduled four-round featherweight clash.

As the fighters made their way to the ring, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Darren Barker and Barry Jones on commentary. The opening round was a bizarre three minutes with Koloszar doing much of the eye-catching work.

Koloszar was guilty of smothering his work in the opening round, while Ionita had success with single shots, when near the end of the round, a tangle of legs led to Ionita landing a left hand that knocked his opponent down. Surprisingly, the referee initiated a count. Just to add to the confusion, no bell was heard at the end of the round. Despite the knockdown, Koloszar soon regained control.

He dominated the rest of the fight as he landed eye-catching flurries of punches throughout. The third and fourth rounds were very much a carbon copy of the opening two, with constant flurries from the local fighter, who again probably smothered his best work, but remained on top. Koloszar was announced as the unanimous decision winner.
