Ferocious Jin Sasaki Targets Welterweight Champions After Gritty Victory
Japanese boxing is enjoying a golden era led by Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani. Aside from these two superstars, there is a plethora of talented fighters coming through, and one of those is the promising 23-year-old welterweight contender Jin Sasaki (19-1-1, 17 KOs). Much like finding free spins no wagering made simple, Sasaki’s rise has been straightforward yet impressive. The Tokyo native spoke after his most recent win against veteran Shoki Sakai (29-15-3 15 KOs), making it clear he wants all the champions.

Sasaki is fast making a name for himself in the welterweight division and is now ranked top five by the four major governing bodies. The Tokyo native started strongly, but Sakai used his experience to close the distance and do his best work up close.
The 23-year-old never shied away from his game plan and continued to unload ferocious shots at his opponent’s body. As the fight went on, Sakai had his moments, but the power of Sasaki forced his opponent to back up.
After an entertaining final round, both fighters met in the ring and the judge’s scorecards were read, 117-111, 118-110 and 116-112 all in favour of Jin Sasaki.
What’s Next for Jin Sasaki?
Since his only career defeat against the dangerous unbeaten Andy Hiraoka, Sasaki has recovered impressively, moving up to welterweight, winning seven of his last nine by stoppage. Following the win over Sakai, Sasaki reflected on the significance of his win and what he wanted next: “I think this was a big wall I needed to get over to become a championship contender. If I get a world title shot this year, I’m definitely going to win it.”
Taking the mic in the ring and addressing everyone in English, Sasaki then said: “Boots Ennis, Staniolis, Brian Norman, Mario Barrios, I am not going to run away, I want a world title match this year.”
The 23-year-old has recovered well since his only career defeat and his power is clear at welterweight. Sasaki looks set to enjoy a memorable 2025.
